World Reef Awareness Day was observed on the 1st of June - something we tragically missed.
But we’re here now and want to encourage everyone in our network to reflect on the state of coral reefs.
It is believed that approximately half of the world’s coral reefs have already been severely damaged or destroyed already and if that trend continues, then approximately 75% of them will be threatened by 2050. That could prove disastrous for our world!!
Coral reefs do a tremendous job in protecting those beautiful coastlines we love to escape to! They protect them from erosion, from storms and in and of themselves are a source of food and new medicines. They also protect marine wildlife.
MOSTravel and our many industry partners are commuting to do our part in order to protect this important part of our ocean’s ecosystem - will you join us too, before it’s too late?
How We Can Protect Coral Reefs:
• If you visit reefs, avoid touching them or anchoring your boat on them.
• Avoid suncreams that have harmful chemicals in them that can kill corals.
• Dispose of rubbish properly and recycle whenever possible.
• Avoid using fertilisers.
• Save energy at home and at work.
• Avoid purchasing living coral.
We finally want to give a huge shout out to @fsseychelles and @tourismseychelles for their efforts in reef conservation. Tara loved the to see the programs put on there when she visited.
