This photo pretty much sums up how it felt to begin the mammoth task of ‘doing up’ Black Sheep Barn. Here’s Chris on the roof with a crowbar and hammer, pulling up every nail that held the leaky tin roof down.

From the very beginning we knew we wanted to reuse as much of the material as possible. From a financial as well as environmental and sustainability point of view - it just makes sense doesn’t it.

The corrugated metal sheets have been used for a sheep shelter and our garden shed, the telegraph poles that had been used for the roof structure are a retaining wall and the massive timbers that were the roof purlins became the decking you can see in the other photos. We even kept all the nails and recently reused them for fixing down a membrane under a new path….All for free! Hooray.

The photo is of Brown Clee Hill in Shropshire. Black Sheep Barn sits on the side of the hill at 400m above sea level, roughly in the centre of this photo. You can step from the door into miles of footpaths and beautiful wild open access land.

The local towns of Ludlow and Bridgnorth are good to visit too and a good place for alternative Christmas shopping with many independent shops.

Brown Clee Hill is the highest hill in Shropshire and from the top, if the weather is on your side, you can see the Cotswolds, Snowdonia and the Black Mountains.

I wasn’t sure where to go on my run this morning when this path - that I’ve never noticed before - appeared before me in the glorious sun light. Love exploring open access land! Come here on holiday and explore Brown Clee Hill from the doorstep of Black Sheep Barn!

It was a lovely path by the way- can’t believe I’ve not been there before…

Look who I bumped into on the hill today? Haven’t seen the horses for a while - always a privilege.

Miles of mountain bike trails and views like this right from your door .

Come for a holiday here and this could be you! This view is about a mile from Black Sheep Barn, across wild hillside.

Come for a break, explore on your bike or on foot and enjoy the miles of varied landscapes without having to drive anywhere.

You could visit one of the several good pubs or cafes for lunch or head back to the barn and treat yourself to some food treats from nearby foodie town Ludlow.

Pretty pleased with how the cladding in the king size bedroom turned out. It used to be the cladding round the outside of the barn when it had animals in here rather than relaxing holiday people.
