Matlock is opening up again. Hall Leys Park is a lovely spot in the centre of town.

In a sign of normality returning to everyday life in Matlock, boat and train rides whirred back into action at Hall Leys Park this week - complete with new electric engines.

The perfect tiny holiday cottage on the edge of the beautiful Peak District.

The accommodation consists of a studio apartment with kitchenette, dining/sitting area and ensuite shower room. There is private decking for the use of the cottage with a table and chairs for indoor or outdoor use. There is also a lower paved area where the hot tub is situated with a table and chairs for sitting or dining.

The garden or decking look out on a beautiful view of the hillside with Riber Castle on the horizon. You can sit outside and enjoy a meal or glass of wine during the day or watch the sun go down in the evening. The decking has pretty solar lights for a romantic setting.

Dwaradin has broadband and a smart TV with complimentary Netflix. The TV is on a swivel bracket so you can watch from the sofa or the bed.

The kitchen is fully equipped with a cooker, dishwasher, microwave and fridge freezer.

Dwaradin also, surprisingly for a small space, boasts a king size bed. The shower room is equipped with electric shower, corner washbasin and toilet.

The outside is improving too. Lots of seasonal colour in pots and the view is looking particularly good today. The castle is clearly visible from Dwaradin's private decking.

The bed was finished yesterday. The kitchen is complete, as is the bathroom. If only it would stop raining so we could finish the outside.

The paving is now finished and the decking has been treated with anti slip stuff. It's all coming together. We just need some appropriate rendering weather to finish the outside.

Over fifty likes! Thank you to everyone who has shown an interest in my latest venture. I thought I'd share with you a picture of these beautiful coasters, bought recently for Dwaradin. We do get wildlife here. There is a visiting fox, who has been seen going up the drive, as well as hedgehogs, birds, bats, butterflies and bees.

Windows and doors are now completed and the plastering is nearly finished. The outside will be rendered soon which will improve its appearance greatly.

What colour should I choose for the render of Dwaradin? So far, I'm considering a pale green, french grey (almost dark olive) and white. Any ideas? I'm aiming for a Scandi look if possible.

The outer blockwork is now completed and the roof is on. Windows and doors have now been fitted so the house is watertight and plastering and electrical work can be carried out.

The construction of Dwaradin is timber framed. Space was limited so this allows the best use of what was available. the timber frame is filled in with thick insulation, a waterproof membrane applied to the outside and then surrounded in blockwork. It will be a "passivhaus", requiring little heating because of its size and the large amount of insulation in the walls, roof and even under the floor.

Inspired by George Clarke's Amazing spaces, Dwaradin was built on the foundations of a crumbling garage.

The garage was being used to store junk and I knew there had to be a better use for the space. After meeting architect Ben of The Practical Planning Company the plans were drawn up for the development and submitted to Derbyshire Dales for approval.

The building work was due to start in mid March, but was halted by lockdown due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

Finally building commenced. The old garage was taken down, brick by brick and the foundations for the extra space (to fit a bathroom and entrance hall) were put in place.
