Fantastic weekend :Community 2023 Russell Brand Festival, Hay on Wye - All proceeds going to the Stay Free Foundation helping addicts through recovery. Vegan only. No alcohol allowed and so this translated into everyone being chilled with lovely spaces (inc. sofas) to relax/read, meet others/ enjoy on comfortable seating … at the ‘gathering’ area.
Russell was absolutely on form as was swim Hoff. Amazing international speakers during the festival. Also ‘recovery’ venue with music & opportunities for people to share, support, offload, and inspire others to move forward from addiction; and also small venues where peeps can engage 1-2-1. All the combos of yoga, sound baths, meditation, breath work, music were well attended.
So much to participate in, including creative art and an inspiring cooking demo with vegan chef Gaz Oakley. Impressive programme of activities to choose from.

Amble with its own Yacht club and Marina, working fishing port, high street and harbour full of independent shops, cafes and restaurants is well worth a visit. Looking very serene today with mill pond waters up the estuary and our to sea. Lovely circular walk out along the board walk. @spurreli is a must sit outside visit for homemade ice cream and other delights. The independent pods selling fresh coffee, bread and northumberland cheeses for example, put amble right up there for a great family day out.

8pm and so good to see so many surfers, kayakers, paddle boarders, swimmers in the sea and people on the beach and cafe enjoying the late evening sunshine and big skies ☀️ ☀️ 🏄‍♂️🏄‍♂️ ☀️ ☀️🏄‍♂️🏄‍♂️☀️☀️🏄‍♂️ 🏄‍♂️ ☀️ ☀️

Cullercoats Bay and smuggling 🏴‍☠️ as revealed by the TV seriesHouse Detectives. Cliff House was built in 1768, is just yards from the cliff edge at Cullercoats Bay and and was featured in the 1970s English TV Drama ‘When the Boat Comes In’ and many other TV programmes. Some remarkable and grizzly rumours became verified facts when 2 secret cellars were found underneath a trap door covered with boarding and a rug. These cellars contained iron cages and tunnels with chains. At least one of the cells has neck manacles attached. These cells were used to detain smugglers caught by Captain Thomas Armstrong. However, it was actually a smugglers tunnel, leading to his house, built and used by Thomas Armstrong himself to house his forfeited illegal contraband. His ill gotten gains were then transported from shore to his house and sold on via a distribution network. And therein lies a very dark and murky past! In the 1980s the local authorities blocked the entrance to the tunnel believed to be accessible at high tide and which lead to the Cliff House. Before the construction of the North and South piers at the Mouth of the Tyne, many ships were frequently wrecked. Building of the North and South piers (1895) has been recorded as being one of the most difficult undertakings of it’s kind in the country. The round end of the piers are only 350m apart providing extremely close encounters with big ships sailing through.
