Great Bidlake Manor is private yet accessible and when you stay you will enjoy the exclusive use of this historic house and its grounds. Regardless of the season, you will find a consistently warm and welcoming ambience. There is masses of space and things to do. Children can entertain themselves in the Games Room with its snooker table, board games, large ultra HD television and PlayStation. Chal

lenge each other to a game of chess under the medieval wooden roof in the Solar, read a book by the open fire in the library, or cosy up on a comfortable sofa in the TV room and watch a film. Listen to your favourite music on our Sonos multi-room system. Take a stroll around the grounds overlooking the River Lew valley. Children will enjoy using our microscope to explore the interesting things they find. There are footballs and nets, junior cricket sets and all sorts of other sporting equipment for you to use. Why not make up a jug of cold Pimm's and enjoy an afternoon game of croquet on the lawned courtyard?

Dartmoor is the location of Michael Morpurgo's War Horse and Arthur Conan Doyle's The Hound of the Baskervilles. You can explore on foot, go horse riding or even take a hot air ballon to experience this ancient scenery that sometimes feels like it is out of Tolkein's Lord of the Rings...

'Great Bidlake Manor was a superb place for a family holiday. With the weather being lovely the grounds were ideal for all ages with a spot of cricket, some football and of course some sunbathing too. This was by far the best property we've stayed in. Couldn't fault anything! Lots of little touches which are well thought through with no expense spared. Carol (the housekeeper) was a great host who made us feel welcome. Many thanks. Definitely would come again.'

Great Bidlake Manor is remarkable for being owned by the same family for almost all of its 750 years, and is owned by the family today.

Anyone with the name Bidlake (or Bidlack) can trace their ancestry to here. In other words the house is not named after the family; but the family after this place.

⭐️ Thinking of booking a countryside escape?

'Everything was absolutely wonderful - great bedrooms, fantastic en-suites, well-equipped kitchen, great sounding piano... Rabbits. Sheep. We've never used Sonos before - very nice. Comes with its own wood & walking distance to the pub. I can't think of anything that wasn't lovely.'

Dartmoor has a refreshing enticement at this time of year, with crisp-under-foot grasses, untouched granite tors and rolling hills under a cool blue sky. After a brisk walk, it's time to head back to Great Bidlake Manor for a rosey-cheeked cuppa and perhaps a slice of locally made cake... 🍰
