In her life away from the library our volunteer, Dr Jane Pottas, is a marine biologist specialising in seaweeds. She contributes to the ‘algal herbarium’ (seaweed collections) at the Natural History Museum and Whitby Museum, helping to build international knowledge of local species. This exhibition features cyanotype images of seaweeds she has collected. Do head along to Pannett Art Gallery on Saturday to listen to her talk. 🪸🌍Monday, April 22, is Earth Day, when we celebrate our world and support protection of the environment. Let's take a moment to celebrate the incredible beauty and biodiversity of our world, especially Yorkshire… more specifically Whitby! Each year we are working hard to lower our carbon footprint at the festival. 🌅

From the majestic seabirds to graceful grey seals and magnificent dolphins and minkie whales our coast is teeming with wildlife wonders. Not to mention the beautiful views of the Jurassic coastline and lush green dales!💚

We would also like to take this opportunity to let you know about the wonderful Whitby Lobster Hatchery who will be involved this year at Musicport! Their aim is to protect Whitby’s fishing heritage by conserving the local lobster populations. To do this they will release 100,000 juvenile lobsters into the sea; maintaining ecological balance and protecting the region’s lobster industry for generations to come.

Let's cherish and protect our precious planet together and make a conscious effort to do what we can to keep our planet beautiful.🌿🌊
