Quincey Cottage Whitby...an update!
New signage has arrived yippee, along with bedside cabinets, rugs and stuff...and below is the draft write up that will feature via our managing agents website.
Ground Floor:
Living/dining room: With gas fire, 2 Barker & Stonehouse Sofas, Smart TV, Barker & Stonehouse Dining Table & Chairs, USB points
Kitchen: With electric oven, gas hob, microwave, Dolce Gusto coffee machine, fridge with box freezer and dishwasher.
Small courtyard off kitchen with outhouse.
First Floor:
Bedroom 1: With Double (4ft6”) bed, Smart TV, Fitted wardrobes USB points.
Shower room: With shower cubicle, basin and toilet.
Second Floor:
Bedroom 2: With Super King (6ft) bed Smart TV, USB points
Gas central heating, electricity, bed linen, towels, welcome pack and Wi-Fi are all included.
Public car park 500 yards away.
Quincey Cottage Whitby is c.1750 property and a very charming retreat retaining original features such as exposed beams offering an authentic stay in this whimsical coastal town steeped in history.
Located just off Church Street at the start of the cobbles opposite the old coaching inn The White Horse & Griffin, you are surrounded by history, independent shops, cosy cafes, and quaint old-world pubs.
Despite being in the midst of Whitby’s bustling attractions, Quincey Cottage Whitby offers a tranquil escape on Ellerby Lane, and it is named the owners little black rescue terrier Quincey, who in turn was named after Quincey P. Morris, one of the heroic characters in Bram Stoker’s Dracula, which was famously set in Whitby.
Recently purchased and updated, it is furnished to a high standard mixing contemporary with traditional creating a lovely relaxed environment to enjoy during your stay.
On the ground floor, you’re welcomed into an open-plan living area, featuring two comfortable sofas around a cosy gas fire and a dining table perfect for intimate meals.
The adjoining kitchen is well-equipped and overlooks a small, enclosed courtyard with outdoor seating and an outhouse ideal for storing beach gear like buckets, spades, paddle boards, and bodyboards – it is perfect for a short stroll to the beach!
Upstairs, the first floor hosts a double bedroom with large built-in wardrobes for all your belongings, there is also a shower room on this floor.
The second floor features another double bedroom with a super king size bed nestled under the eaves, offering a cosy and peaceful retreat.
Whitby is a town rich in history and culture. The iconic Whitby Abbey perched high on the cliffs, inspired the setting for Dracula and offers breathtaking views after climbing the famous 199 steps.
The East Side and Old Town has inspired visitors, artists, and writers for over 1500 years and are probably most famously featured in Bram Stoker’s Gothic novel "Dracula".
Just imagine being where Stoker immortalized the black hound escaping up the 199 steps from the ship-wrecked Demeter on Tate Hill Sands up to St. Marys and Whitby Abbey, all on the doorstep of Quincey Cottage Whitby!
Just around the corner from Quincey Cottage Whitby, through the Market Place you have the picturesque Henrietta Street and the home of Fortune’s Smokehouse and their famous kippers, and just a little further along reveals a stunning vista of the harbour and piers which stand proud guarding the entrance of the River Esk and the ancient port of Whitby.
Whitby Harbour is steeped in history, and visitors can see where British Explorer Captain James Cook first worked as an Apprentice before setting sail and discovering Australia. The Captain Cook Museum is situated on Grape Lane and less than 2 min walk from Quincey Cottage Whitby.
A Statue of this Great Explorer stands proudly above the Town along with the Whale bones on the West Cliff, a testament to the Town’s maritime whaling history.
Throughout the year Whitby hosts a variety of unique events, including the biannual Goth, biannual Steampunk weekends, and folk and pirate weekends amongst others, as well as the annual famous Whitby Regatta, making it a vibrant and captivating destination for all.
