ROOTS (all day)

The opportunity to go for a step back in time

From Banjul the trip begins whit at two hours relaxing trip over the rivier.

A drink is served on board. We are going on land at Juffreh, the island of

“the Flag of Freedom” and Kunt Kinthe. The srory of Kunt Kinthe is beautifully told in the book ROOTS. The “Flag of Freedom” is placed when we were freed from slavery. In the museum we will discover the story step by step. During the trip to St. James Island, if we are lucky, we see some dolphins swimming in the riviver. On the island we will visit the ruins of the fort and learn more about the history of slavery

Do not miss the south of the Gambia. By jeep this adventures tour goes to the south of the coutntry. You will pass small villages like Sukuta, were we can pay a visit to the local market.
“Uncel John” is the chief of the village. He is well known fr his palm wine and firewater. Have a tastof the local specialty! We also pay a visit to a local school where you can learn about the schoolsystem in the Gambia. Afther this we headung further down to the south. We will have lunch on the beautiful Paradise Beach wer you can takea refresing dip in the ocean. Then we drive to the fisching village of Tanji, perhaps the highlight of this wonderful day. Here you will see the daily life entirely devoted to fish… an indescribable spectacle you simply must see

GEORGETOWN (2 days)
For those wishing to explore the “real” Gambia
Go whit this 2 day excursion fo adventurers! The First experience starts early in the morning during the crossing by ferry from Banjul to Bara. We drive east through small villages and rice fields so we get a good imresion of the authentic Gambia. On the way we visit the “Stone Circles”the only cultural monument of Gambia. Nobody knows exactly how the stones have come here and which purpose they had. In the course of the day we arrive in Georgetown, also called Jangjangbureh. A simple African camp, consisting of small mud huts. Thuswe experience how Gambians live every day.in Georgetown we take a small city tour and you will visit the local population and the slave houses. In the evening we have diner in the camp while enjoying the African ambiance. The next morning, during a dilicious breackfast and closely followd by a coupleof monkeeys, we can enjoy the sunrise whit the beautiful views. The journy continus whit a boat ride through a bautiful piece of nature whit the change of spotting crocodiles and hippos! We pass baboon island but, contrary, te name, no baboon, but mainly champanzees live.
Lunch wis served on board.
If you have not been to Georgetown then you have not seen the Gambia

MAKASUTU (all day)
Visit the most beautiful national park of the Gambia and let predict the future
You will be picked up in the morning for a trip to the Makasutu Reserve, located on a tributary of the river Gambia. You will find many birds species, 3 species of monkeys and pygmy deer. Upon arrival will be offerd , tea, coffee or lemonade. Then will visit the wildlife museum. Experience the silence of narure during a canoe trip along the mangrove forests. During a walk trough the jungel you will meet one of the oldest Maribou’s (medicine man) in the Gambia. Let him read your palm and predict the futuere. Than we visit a palmwine farmer, he demonstrates how to climb a palm tree (like it’s nothing). Back at the camp, there will be a delicious lunch. Tast and enjoy typical Gambian dishes in the backdrop of the jungel. After lunch tere is the opportunity to connect whit the potters, wood carvers and Furniture makers who will Carry their crafts knowledge

Nature Explorer (Birds and Breakfast)
A trip for birdwatchers! As said by ornithologists all over the world, The Gambia is considered to be a paradise for birdwatchers. More than 500 birds live in the reserve; varieties of monkeys can be seen as well as crocodiles. Walking on for about an hour will bring you to the Abuko Nature Reserver where you can see hyenas, reptiles, antelopes, bush ducks, crown cranes and many more animals.

Creek Fishing (Catch & release)
Enjoy a day of creek fishing on a traditional Gambian Pirogue.

Both boats offer a sun deck and covered areas and there is a full bar service on board that offers a hot and cold snack menu as well as refreshing drinks to have in the hot sun. Included in this excursion you will be given a hot drink upon arrival and a sandwich lunch (e.g. Hot dog, Cheeseburger or Tuna Sandwich). The boats are fully insured and carry life jackets. All fishing equipment and bait is provided and experienced staffs are at hand to help if required

This is an exclusive and quality day on a 60ft modern Gambian styled pirogue.

This very scenic route will enable you to take in some of the many species of bird and river life whilst soaking up the calm and relaxing atmosphere that this cruise offers. For the keen bird-spotter, binoculars and bird books are readily available.

South senegal

Pick up from the hotels and drive to the first village in the South of the Country, Sukuta Village. Here we visit the local fish/vegetable market. This gives you a real taste of Africa and shows the daily shopping and selling of the local people, as markets are open every day and people in the Gambia always buy fresh food on a daily basis. This is because not all people here can afford fridges or live in very rural areas where there is no electricity.
After visiting the market, we will drive on to Yuna Village where we will visit a primary school where guests will be brief on our education system. Later on, the driving continues to Uncle John’s local Palm Wine tappers. Here you will get a real taste of the Palm Wine (Jungle Juice). From Uncle John’s, we proceed to drive through the bushes to Samyang Village, where will be at the Paradise Beach for lunch, enjoying the breeze of the Atlantic Ocean. From there we drive to Tanji Village Museum where the natural history and traditional culture of The Gambia is presented in an interesting and accessible way to tourists, Gambians, local inhabitants and school

Gambia River Cruise:-
This is a perfect boat trip on the river, very relaxing with a lot of fun, fishing swimming and sun bathing at the top of the boat. You will have a welcoming coffee, after which you can try your hand at a spot of river fishing. For lunch there is a buffet on the boat. This is a proper boat with all facilities like toilets and everything for fishing. During the boat trip you will see how oysters grow around the mangrove and if you're luckily you will see some of the local women collecting oysters and cockles.

Banjul Highlight:-
This is an orientation tour that takes you round to see the capital of the Gambia. You will see that this is where most of the government departments and other public offices are based. You will have a stop at the ARCH 22which is one of our national monuments, there you will have a better view of the capital. From there you have a drive to the Albert Market where there is a range of food stuffs, clothes and also Gambian women in their colourful dresses. The final visit will be at the RTVH hospital which is the biggest hospital in the country which was built in colonial times. Lunch will be at a restaurant on the beach side nearby.

Community Excursions:-
This is also a day trip that takes you to various sites and local projects initiated by local women within the country like visiting the horticultural crop garden at Bakau, Sukuta and Banjulinding co-operative society. This gives you a better insight as to how Gambian women work towards being more self-sufficient and also about some of the constrains like lack of fertilizer. Later in the day we will drive for lunch and back to your hotel.

Georgetown 2 Days:-
This is an overnight trip which give the chance to see the real Gambia like local life, local villages, landscape and also you can have the opportunity to do a boat trip to baboon island where you may have the chance to see chimpanzees, hippos, wild crocodiles, birds, baboons, monkeys and so on. You will also visit the stone circles, then drive to Georgetown where you will have a city tour to visit the underground slave house, freedom tree, old wooden house and the slave warehouse. The night stop will be at a local camp where you will spend the night on the island of Georgetown. The following day after breakfast we will leave on the south bank with interesting stops at various points then back to your hotel.

You can advertise business or company on an internet tree at Lamin lodge Annual fees are negotiable.
Lamin lodge is a fun place to visit. The restaurant has a small selection of meals available at affordable prices. You can have an interesting river boat trip from there. You will enjoy the nature, mangroves, birds and much more. You will also see piles of oyster and cockle shells lying round the place. Local guides will give you some explanation about what they do with it and you also get to see the elephant tree and of course an internet tree.
They might ask you for donation “from heart” in the end of your visit. Don’t forget about tips for the guides from the boat.

CIRCLE OF LIFE

Once we arrive in Senegal we are introduced to our Ranger as we are welcomed into the Fathala nature reserve currently 2000 acres of a natural environment which many African Wildlife have now made home. On our contained vehicle we are able to follow the animal tracks through the wilderness to spot some of the species that roam the area.
In just a day it is possible to spot Giraffes, Rhino, Giant Elands, Zebras , Antelopes, Pythons, Buffalos to mention only a few – How lucky will you be?
A great chance to take a memories of Africa home – don’t go without your cameras – this may be your only chance to take some amazing pictures!
During the day we will have the chance to have 31cm pizza for lunch in the wild. Drinks and Ice cream are normally available to buy during the day at the park. You will learn the history of the area and the great plans they have for the future. Go on be a part of Africa that you will remember forever!

WAKE UP WITH THE BIRD & BREAKFAST

We begin around 06:00 hrs and drive by minibus to LAMIN LODGE where, after a wakening tea or coffee, we will embark onto the age old Gambian canoes into the creeks from which we will be given a totally different memory of the dawn and the accompanying Dawn Chorus. We will then take you back to the restaurant at Lamin for a cooked breakfast. After a digestion and relaxation period, during which time we are surrounded by the wonders of up to 200 different species of bird life; we take a 1½ km stroll along the edge of the rice fields towards Abuko to further sample the delights of the Gambian "Aviary"

TANJI BIRD RESERVE

The Tanji Bird Reserve is officially protected area of The Gambia and is only 10 minutes drive from the Senegambia Hotel areas. The reserve is just over 6 square kilometers and encompasses a wide range of different habitat types from the beach, tidal lagoons, mangroves, swamp, scrubs and dry savannah woodland. The reserve also protect Bijilo Island which is The Gambia's only off shore island lying about 1.5 kilometers from the coast. The species you may see here are as follows Kelp Gull, White fronted Plover, Yellow leg Gull, Lesser Black Back Gull, Bar Tail Godwit, Osprey, Oriole Warbler, Sulphur Breasted Bush Shrike, Pomarine Skua, Goliath heron and many more. .
