The port is encompassed by two breakwaters: breakwater Porporela in front of St. John fortress and Kaše breakwater going perpendicular across the port bay. In the time of the Dubrovnik Republic several forts protected the port: St Luke Fort, St John fortress and Revelin fortress. Today the port is a safe haven for many private boats of local citizens!

Villa Sheherezada is the most unusual building in Dubrovnik. It is also known as the Taj Mahal of the Mediterranean as it is the only building built in the eastern style.

Its construction was completed in 1929, commsisioned by the wealthy Russian Jew, Vilim Zimdin who was its first owner and resident. Zimdin at the time had a mysterious lover, Maurka dark complexion, called Sherehezada, who he wished to build a special oriental style palace for, like the one described in the book 1,001 nights. The villa gets its name from her nickname.

Today it has been renovated as an elite residence costing sevral thousand euros per night to stay.

The Blue Cave on Koločep island is a real gem, a sapphire, we dare to say. While you can enter most Dubrovnik caves with a kayak or a boat, in order to explore the belly of the Blue cave you will have to do some “elbow grease” and show your swimming skills. Depending on the tides, the entrance of the cave is almost submerged, hence it offers a unique swimming and snorkeling experience. As the sun comes through the entrance it creates an outstanding blue light spectacle. You will feel as if you have entered some magical world and you are floating in the blue abyss.

Betina Cave is a beautiful pebble beach located in a cave between the picturesque villa Sheherezada and Gjivovichi beach. The beach was named after Beta, as they called the great Dubrovnik scientist Marin Getaldich, who performed various optical experiments and research in the cave. Hidden in the rocks and bordered by greenery, it is characterized by an unusual shape and clear sea that will be etched in your memory forever.

Fort Lovrijenac or St. Lawrence Fortress, often called "Dubrovnik's Gibraltar", is a fortress and theater outside the western wall of the city of Dubrovnik in Croatia, 37 metres (121 ft) above sea level.Famous for its plays and importance in resisting Venetian rule, it overshadows the two entrances to the city, from the sea, and by land. Early in the 11th century, the Venetians attempted to build a fort on the same spot where Fort Lovrijenac currently stands. If they had succeeded, they would have kept Dubrovnik under their power, but the people of the city beat them to it. The "Chronicles of Ragusa" reveal how the fort was built within just three months and from then on constantly reconstructed. When the Venetian ships arrived, full of materials for the construction of the fort, they were told to return to Venice. The Croatian leg of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series takes place in Lovrijenac.
