Today’s pelagic from Cape Clear produced 59 Wilson’s, 25+ Greats, 5 Sooties, 1 Cory’s, 3 Bonxie and small no’s Manx and Stormies
Fin Whales joining the bounty in West Cork yesterday along with a Wilson’s Storm-petrel loads of Sooties and Bonxies.
The Wildlife extravaganza is still going strong in West Cork! Just today this Humpback traveled alongside us for over 30 minutes. Also Fin and Minke Whales along with Dolphins, Porpoise and plenty of Puffins, Shearwaters and Storm-petrels. We will be running a trip on Sunday when the wind will pick up and hopefully bring some big Shearwaters and a few Wilson’s! http://www.shearwaterwildlifetours.com/?s=tours&id=1 for bookings.
Today's pelagic produced 7 Sooties, 2 Great Skua, thousands of Stormies and good no's Manxies. Also many hundreds of Common Dolphins and 30+ Minke Whale. Distant Humpback blows.
A challenging day on the water today with rain, wind and low visibility. Yet we managed to find out that the Storm-petrels are back in great numbers with over 200 seen and up to 100 in the slick at any one time! Skuas were represented by a dark-phase adult Pomarine and two Bonxie. A Turnstone came and circled us while we were 12 miles out which is a new species for our pelagic list. A Red-throated Diver was an unexpected addition also quite fr out. Supporting cast were good numbers of Kittywake, Fulmar, Manx Shearwaters, Gannets and 3 Arctic Terns.
