SMBC Aviation Capital welcomed the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, Paschal Donohoe to the formal opening of its new global headquarters at Fitzwilliam 28 last week. SMBC Aviation Capital is Ireland’s largest aircraft leasing company and the world’s second largest aircraft leasing company. Henry J Lyons was engaged to design a new state-of-the-art HQ office space. In little over six months on site, the primary office spaces were delivered to a design that both reflects and meets the needs of the company’s growing portfolio and workforce within one of Ireland’s leading industries.

Henry J Lyons Architects acquire speciality hospitality practice NODA.

The Directors of Henry J Lyons are delighted to announce the acquisition of NODA, expanding our hospitality and leisure expertise. NODA, a four-person architecture and interior design practice led by Architect Nikki O'Donnell has a wealth of experience in hotel and fit out design as well as recent experience in the design of tenant amenities in large scale residential projects. Nikki and her team have delivered many prestigious hotel projects including the Westin Hotel, Morgan Hotel, Inchydoney Hotel & Spa, Carton House, Morrison Hotel and many others. The variety and scale of projects within the NODA portfolio align with the high-quality work delivered by HJL, and the practice is keen to consolidate and enhance its existing hospitality expertise by creating a dedicated and specialised hospitality team.

From the beginning of October, the NODA team will merge with Henry J Lyons’ team to form a dedicated Hospitality Group led by Nikki O’Donnell and Conor MacCabe, Henry J Lyons’ current Managing Director and Head of Interiors. This group will also bring its experience to all our current hospitality projects. The practice looks forward to providing new and improved services to our clients in Ireland and overseas.

Primarily known for our award-winning large-scale residential, commercial, educational and workplace projects, Henry J Lyons has designed and delivered many hospitality projects in the past. We anticipate that a dedicated Hospitality Group will enhance our existing offering and give current and prospective clients deep sectoral expertise, insight and experience along with the benefits that come with working with Ireland’s largest practice.

Henry J Lyons Staff are running / walking 100km throughout the month of August in support of our colleague, Fraser Holden, who has recently been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. This is a progressive neurological condition in which the nerves that control voluntary muscles stop working. Sadly, there is no cure for MND and life expectancy is greatly reduced. Obviously this has been a life changing diagnosis for Fraser and his family.

Please help us in raising money for Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association, who have given much needed support to Fraser and his family. No donation is too small and your help is greatly appreciated.

Bottleworks, Barrow Street has won a RIAI Architecture Award for “Best Workplace & Fit-out Category” and placed 3rd in the "RIAI Public Choice Award" at the 2022 Awards. We are all thrilled to have won these awards and would like to congratulate the Design Team, Client and Contractor on the hard work and dedication over the span of the project.

About the project:
The design of Bottleworks navigates the confined urban site to maximize daylight while minimising overlooking and overshadowing of adjoining residential properties. A derelict factory is replaced with a screened concrete frame that is punctuated by five courtyards to draw light deep into the heart of the building. The landscaped courtyards are veiled along the site's perimeter by a bespoke metal privacy screen which is simultaneously functional and ornamental. The exterior expression is mysterious in its white opaqueness above a dark base. Reference to the site’s history of a glass bottle-works is reflected in the fit-out with fluted details, circular imprints and green accents while the building's absolute modernity is asserted through NZEB compliance and contemporary sustainability and biodiversity installations.

Henry J Lyons condemns the war in Ukraine as indefensible. We stand unequivocally with the people of Ukraine and as an Irish practice we believe in Ukraine’s right to sovereignty, democracy and peace.

To demonstrate our support the practice will make immediate donations of €10,000 to Depaul Ireland and to the Red Cross. The practice will also match any donations made by staff. While the war continues the practice will work to identify other charities or groups who we can continue to support.
