Rabbit Island This charming and luxurious fishing lodge is nestled into this delightful island in the middle of Lough Corrib. The possibilities are many!

Originally built in 1907 by Lord Headley, this exclusive property was renovated and modernised in recent years to create an extremely comfortable and tranquil hideaway. The accommodation sleeps a total of 8 and consists of 5 bedrooms, 1 double, 2 twins and 2 singles, 2 bathrooms, a fully fitted kitchen and a spacious sitting room opening onto an extensive covered veranda. The Lodge is accessed fro

m Kenny’s Bay on the Eastern side of Lough Corrib, where your cars can be safely parked. A lake boat and lifejackets are provided for the short row to the island. A boatman can be arranged to ferry people to and from the island and extra boats and engines can also be arranged. The town of Headford is 10 minutes from Kenny’s Bay and Galway City is 30 minutes away. Knock airport is 1 hour away and Shannon 1.5 hours. The lodge is the ultimate haven from the stresses of modern life and is a unique experience. You share this beautiful 26 acre island with a small flock of sheep!! Guided boat tours of the lake can also be arranged as can fishing. For fishermen a full professional ghillie service is available and catering can also be arranged if all you want to do is fish and relax! The lodge is the ultimate fishing base with the lake literally on your doorstep. The mid lake position of the island means that all types of fishing are available nearby and the area is quite sheltered. The beauty of staying on the water means your day can be tailored to suit when the fish are feeding. You can cast a fly to Caenis feeding trout at daybreak in June and still get back to bed for an hours sleep before breakfast or you can stroll down to the pier at dusk after a hearty meal to try and catch one of Corrib’s monsters feeding on adult buzzers, spent mayfly or large sedges.

Just wondering if any angler out there picked up a landing net on Rabbit Island this week mistakenly thinking it was abandoned as guests on the island had to leave unexpectedly for a couple of days last Monday and when they returned their net was gone. If you did could you please leave it back as soon as you get a chance

Corrib is starting to get going with a few duckfly starting to show and things should be in full swing by the end of the week. Was out today with Brian McInerney from Clare and had 4 fish to the boat for 14lbs with two beauties of 5.5lbs and 5lbs

Well the trout season has kicked off with extremely mild weather and moderate water levels giving good fishing to the hardy February anglers. Lots of trout showing up to wetflies due to the good conditions and trollers accounting for plenty of fish. Due to some cancellations the first and last week's of May have become free so if you are looking to stay in a proper fishing destination don't delay. Still plenty of availability for duckfly and olive time too.

A huge thanks to Philip for a unique trip away. What a fantastic way to spend your Bank Holiday weekend. I’ve stayed in numerous locations around Ireland over the years but I cannot recall another that offers such a perfect blend of access to activities on your doorstep and/ or relaxation at your fingertips. If I have one complaint, it is that I did not book the lodge for five days instead of three, as I had thrown my watch and phone in my bag after day two. I booked the accommodation with some friends and family for a getaway weekend and we were not disappointed from the time we met Philip at the pier. He is the embodiment of genuine Irish hospitality. He could not do enough for us and met our requests for help with a warmth and genuine interest that was only outdone by his charming manner. After bringing a second boat out to the Island with our mountain of gear in it (which by the way there is little need for as the accommodation was well equipped with towels, bedding, barbecue, firewood, kitchen utensils you name it) Philip answered all of our questions about the lodge, the location and the history of the island with a patience that had us all relaxed by the time he departed. After unpacking some of us went swimming off of the beautiful private pier less than a minute walk from the house while others took to the water in the boat again for a spot of fishing. The remainder made the most of the open fire in the huge sitting room, enjoying the wall to wall views of the lake before taking off along the shoreline to drink in the wonderful views. The following two days consisted of exploring the island (some amazing photo opportunities if you’re that way inclined), barbecuing and drinking on the veranda, enjoying the water and slowing down to a pace that life should be lived at. I would highly recommend this accommodation for anyone who is looking to de-stress from the fast pace of modern life. The rustic charm of the lodge sets you at ease almost immediately and the veranda allows you to sit outside in comfort enjoying the craic along with the wonderful sounds of nature into the wee hours. Great spot for reconnecting with friends, family and nature. I'm looking forward to my next trip down already. Thanks again Philip.

Just wanted to share the review from our guest that stayed over the bank holiday weekend.

Some people love the pull of a fish on the epoxy buzzer but for me there is no better fishing than listening for big bruisers slurping flies in at dark and chasing them around
