Huw has had a longstanding love affair with India and the Indian Himalaya in particular. This includes numerous pioneering ski touring journeys in winter.

His love of extended human-powered journeys included 25,000 km circumnavigating Australia by foot, ski, kayak, and bike and a year-long, 13000 km circumnavigation of the Mediterranean Sea by sea kayak, foot, ocean rowboat, and bike through 17 countries.

These are not words we’ve fabricated. These are words that our women colleagues and adventurers have heard being said to them.

The question to ask ourselves now is, how often have we thought these words in our head and probably said them aloud too?

It’s 2021, and it’s time we talked about Gender Sensitization. Deep-rooted conditioning and prejudice are the key drivers behind gender insensitive statements. Very often, we don’t even understand that we’ve actually said something wrong. So how do we recognize these words and what are the steps we can take to correct this? The newly formed ATOAI Women’s Collective has organized a workshop for all adventure travel industry stakeholders to address this very issue.

Posted • It’s been raining non-stop here since yesterday. The temperature has dropped to a pleasant 21 degrees celsius and the air is fragrant with petrichor. The pitter-patter of the rain is almost meditative in its repetition. There were stuffed paranthas for breakfast with sweet, hot tea. This is bliss 🤍

The plot was inspired by Charles Lindbergh’s first non-stop transatlantic flight from New York to Paris and involved, well, some problematic behaviour. Jon Reeves has this synopsis on IMDB:

“Thanks to the lockdown the traveler in me was in search of unexplored places nearby and I chanced to find this hidden gem, Amrit Bhawan. The place exudes peace and tranquility. We had a lovely stay here which was made possible by their endearing staff ( special mention to Mohit ji, Sandeep ji, Kamal and Neeraj).Our two days visit gave us endless memories to cherish for a lifetime..be it the safari to Rajaji National Park, the early morning Ganga snan at Har ki Pauri, the puja by the banks of the river at Amrit Bhawan. We return as blessed souls.”

Caving is an adventure sport that has gained traction in recent times in India. The activity takes you through some massive underground structures. Reaching the caves in itself can be an adventure, taking you through green forest and beautiful waterfalls. The deepest and longest of the caves in South Asia are located in Meghalaya. Caving is a mixture of a lot of activities. It involves a bit of free hand rock climbing, plenty of crawling, going through tight squeezes, walking and, if one is lucky, some swimming. With more than 1200 caves, Meghalaya boasts of the largest network of caves found on the Indian sub-continent, stretching over three hundred kilometres.

On the Meghalaya Caving Adventure we explore different caves in the Shnong Rim area, opening the door to an out-of the-world experience. Once inside the caves one can only marvel at the opulent formations created over thousands of years – stalagmites, stalactites, candles, cave curtains & cave pearls to name a few. Most of the cave passages are live, meaning one would either have to walk through waist deep water or even swim to navigate the caves. Proficiently trained & experienced cavers would guide clients through the caves to ensure their safety.
