Evenings suit best. The 2000 ft-above-sea level spot is a 5km uphill drive from Teekoy Church Junction, which is 7kms from Erattupetta on the Erattupetta – Vagamon route. As of now, it isn’t crowded or noisy.

You’re suggested to enjoy the experience as soon as possible – before it gets transformed into a typical tourist spot. There is no shops around. But there’s a Church and the Ayyampara temple right at the peak. Park your vehicle somewhere in the sides, get out and stroll around like we did. The prime attraction of Ayyampara is the rocky area, which occupies nearly 100 acres of the region. This natural granite stadium of Ayyampara is worth visiting. The magnificent view of the town below can be enjoyed from this rock stadium of Ayyampara. Also, visitors to Ayyampara can watch sunset from this flat rock. This place has a mythological importance and is considered that the Pandavas during their exile lived near this rock. Located 2000 feet above the sea level, Ayyampara is a major tourist attraction. The town derived its name from the Lord Ayyappa temple that is located here. These rocky plains are a favorite destination for the adventure lovers. Various trekking expeditions are available. The trekking routes from Kottayam to Ayyampara involves a wide spectrum of scenic treasures that are spread all over the place. A remote location Ayyampara has till date maintained its rustic look. The visitor will be wonderstruck by the red hot sun sinking into the Arabian Sea and the cool breeze doing wonders on his mind and body. According to the legends, the five Pandava brothers stayed here during their exile. The name of the rock is said to be a modified version of Anchupara (five pillar rocks). There is an ancient Ayyappa Temple here which has four pillars which support a flat piece of rock that forms the roof. On one side of the rock is a small cave.
