Winters in Spiti are extremely harsh and temperatures sometimes drop to as low as -20º Celsius. Winters here are frigid and there is no running water in taps. All that Spiti has in winters is the never-ending adventure and a white blanket of snow! Known for its rugged terrain, a trip during Winter gets a lot trickier.

Zoji La is about 100 km from Srinagar, the capital of the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, and 15 km from Sonmarg. It provides a vital link between Ladakh and Kashmir Valley. It runs at an elevation of approximately 3,528 metres (11,575 ft), and is the second highest pass after Fotu La on the Srinagar-Leh National Highway. It is often closed during winter, though the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is working to extend traffic to more period in winter. The Beacon Force unit and The Vijayak Force unit of the BRO are responsible for clearing and maintenance of the road during Winter. Driving through the pass in winter means driving between thick walls of ice on both sides.

Jakhu Temple (or Jakhoo Temple) is an ancient temple in Shimla, dedicated to the Hindu deity Lord Hanuman.[1] It is situated on Jakhu Hill, Shimla's highest peak, 2.5 km (1.6 mi) east of the Ridge at a height of 2,455 m (8,054 ft) above sea level.[2] Each year, a festival is held on Dussehra, before 1972 the festival used to be held at Annadale.[3] Shri Hanuman Jakhu is a statue situated in the temple premises which is one of the tallest in the world.[4]

According to the Ramayana, Hanuman stopped at the location to rest while searching for the Sanjivni Booti to revive Lakshmana. A giant 108-feet-high idol of Hanuman was unveiled at Jakhu Hanuman temple on 4 November 2010. At 108 feet (33 m), it surpasses the statue of Christ the Redeemer, which measures at 98 feet (30 m), in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

बिजली महादेव हिमाचल प्रदेश के कुल्लू में ऊंची पहाड़ियों पर स्थित है। यहां पर पारवती और व्यास नदी का संगम भी है।

क्या है मान्यता

मान्यता है कि यहां की विशालकाय घाटी सांप के रूप में है, जिसका वध महादेव के द्वारा किया गया था। मान्यता के अनुसार, भगवान शिव की अज्ञा लेकर ही हर 12 साल पर भगवान इंद्र बिजली गिराते हैं। बिजली गिरने के कारण शिवलिंग खंडित हो जाता है, उसके बाद यहां के पुजारियों द्वारा खंडित शिवलिंग को मक्खन से जोड़ा जाता है।

पौराणिक कथा के अनुसार, इस घाटी में कुलान्त नाम का एक दैत्य रहता था, जो बहुत ही मायावी था। एक बार उसने सभी जीवों को मारने की लिए व्यास नदी को रोक दिया। कहा जाता है कि दैत्य के इस रवैये से महादेव क्रोधित हो गए और उन्होंने इस दैत्य को मारने का मन बना लिया।

कहा जाता है इसके लिए भगवान शिव ने भी एक माया रची और उसी माया के अनुसार, भगवान शिव दैत्य के पास गए और कहा कि आपकी पूंछ में आग लग गई है। जैसे ही दैत्य पूंछ देखने के लिए पीछे मूड़ा, भगवान शिव ने अपने त्रिशुल से दैत्य के सिर पर वार कर दिया और इस तरह कुलान्त मारा गया। कहा जाता है कि उसके विशालकाय शरीर एक पहाड़ में तब्दील हो गया, जिसे हम कुल्लू के पहाड़ों के नाम से जानते हैं।

क्यों गिरती है बिजली

कथा के अनुसार, जब भगवान शिव ने कुलान्त दैत्य को मार दिया, उसके बाद उन्होंने इन्द्र से कहा कि वे हर 12 साल पर बिजली गिराएं। बिजली गिरने से शिवलिंग टूट जाता है, जिसे यहां के पूजारियों द्वारा इसे मक्खन से ठीक कर दिया जाता है, जो बाद में कठोर हो जाता है।

The Naggar Castle is a magnificent historical structure. The castle was built by Raja Sidhi Singh in 1460 AD in an impressive combination of European and Himalayan architecture. The castle has traditional architecture called Kathkooni, which uses a combination of stones and wooden beams.

The Naggar Castle was used as a Royal residence and state head quarter until the British took over the whole Kangra and Kullu from Sikh's in 1846. Raja Gyan Singh sold it to the first assistant commissioner, Major Hay for a Gun. The northern wing of the castle was later converted to the European way of living by putting in staircase, fire place and chimneys. He later sold it to the Government when it was used as a courthouse. In 1947, with the departure of the British the court-activity ceased.

In the year 1978, the castle was converted into a rest house and more recently into a heritage hotel that is run by Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC). The Naggar Castle has been recently renovated while keeping its heritage structure intact.

There are three small shrines present within the premises that hold religious significance. Here, a gallery houses the paintings of the Russian artist Nicholas Roerich.
