At the time of freedom struggle, when the Britishers had censored the newspaper this sweet originated in the allies of Varanasi was served as slogans.

Tiranga Barfi, initially was known as Rashtriya Barfi, was originated in the 1850s by a small sweet shop owner Shri Raghunath Das Gupta of Varanasi. Made with almonds, pistachios and mawa.

Recently added in the GI (Geographical Indication) Club, Tiranga Barfi displays the three colors of the tricolour flag. And even today, it is distributed in schools on Independence and Republic Day in many parts of the country.

Today, the original recipe has been changed a little but the emotion is still the same. So, make sure to try it next time you visit Varanasi.

Ghats Of Benaras In Paintings: As seen by foreign artist from around the globe.

1. C. J. Robinson : A lesser-known British artist, visited Varanasi in the late 19th century. His works, primarily watercolors, focus on the architectural and scenic beauty of the city. Robinson’s paintings are appreciated for their delicate detail and atmospheric quality, depicting Varanasi’s timeless allure.

2. Erich Kips : A German painter, visited Varanasi in the early 1900s. Known for his impressionist style, Kips captured the vibrant and chaotic life along the Ganges. His paintings are admired for their dynamic brushwork and use of light, offering a unique European perspective on the Indian holy city.

3. James Prinsep : An English scholar and artist, visited Varanasi in the 1820s. Besides his contributions to deciphering ancient Indian scripts, Prinsep’s detailed drawings and lithographs of Varanasi provide invaluable historical insights. His works capture the city’s architectural and cultural essence during the early 19th century.

4. Thomas Daniell : An English landscape artist, visited Varanasi in the late 18th century with his nephew William Daniell. Their collaborative works, particularly the aquatints, are some of the earliest and most famous visual records of Varanasi. These pieces played a significant role in introducing Indian architecture and landscapes to the Western world.

5. Yoshida Hiroshi : This Japanese artist, visited Varanasi in the early 20th century. Famous for his woodblock prints, Hiroshi’s works from Varanasi illustrate the city’s spiritual aura and architectural beauty. His portrayal of the ghats and the Ganges are celebrated for their vivid colors and meticulous detail.

6. Ludwig Hans Fischer : An Austrian artist, visited Kashi in the late 19th century. He was renowned for his detailed watercolors and etchings of Indian landscapes. His works often depicted the daily life and spiritual ambiance of Varanasi, capturing the essence of the ghats and temples with intricate precision.
