Mystical Reykjanes Peninsula 🌧️

Today’s tour of the Reykjanes Peninsula was nothing short of magical. The misty landscapes and dramatic volcanic scenery made it feel like we were walking through a scene from a fantasy novel ✨

From the steaming hot springs of Krýsuvík to the eerie beauty of Kleifarvatn Lake. The highlight? Standing between two continents at the Bridge Between Continents, feeling the power of the earth beneath our feet 🌍

Even on a cloudy day, Iceland never fails to amaze ❤️

Are you interested in bird photography?

If so, here we have a prefect spot for you!

The spot is called Látrabjarg, the largest seabird cliff in Iceland and one of Europe’s biggest. It stretches over 14 kilometers and reaches a height of up to 441 meters. Remarkably, it’s also one of the westernmost points in Europe (at 24°32’´3" west)!

Látrabjarg is called home by millions of seabirds during the summer. The most sought-after bird for photographers here is the puffin. Other species include the razorbill, fulmar, guillemots, and kittiwakes. In total, approximately 10 different species nest and raise their chicks on these cliffs!

Látrabjarg was declared a protected area (friðlýst) in March 2021.

Viking festivities in Iceland

A few days ago, the oldest and largest Viking festival in Iceland took place in Hafnarfjordur. The visitors had a chance to admire colorful Viking costumes and buy handmade ornaments made by local people. 👑
The youngest audience could engage in different entertainements and hear amazing stories about the Middle Ages. After all, who knows more about the Vikings than Icelanders? 🧌

What can you see in Húsafell, Iceland?

Húsafell, one of the oldest Icelandic settlement nestled between lava fieds and the second largest glacier in Iceland.

What can you visit there?

🗻 Langjökul - not only you can explore this glacier from outside with a snowmobile or a monster truck but you can also take a walk underneath it! The venture beneath the ice is the largest ice tunnel in Iceland!

♨️ Deildartunguhver - a geothermal hot spring with impressive flow rate of approx. 180 liters per second. It plays a crucial role in providing the energy to nearby communities. Be careful, the water emerges scaling hot at around 97°C/207°F!

🌊 Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls: two waterfalls near each other but yet so different!

Hraunfossar's unique falls trickle from a wide plateau of jagged 1-km long lava rock.

Barnafoss rushes down a narrow valley with impressive force. Both waterfalls are characterized by beautiful light blue color of the water.

A quick stop at Fjallsárlón 🧊

You probably heard about Iceland's most famous glacier lagoon: Jökulsárlón. But have you hear about Fjallsárlón?

While smaller than its famous neighbor, Fjallsárlón is less crowded with visitors and reminds to be a hidden gem of Iceland.🤫

Due to its smaller size, you can get much closer to the ice cap and admire the glacier snout from very close up. At Fjallsárlón, you’ll find clear waters with white and clear icebergs, creating a picturesque scene.🗻

We were incredibly lucky to meet plenty of seals lounging on the rocks on the Ytri Tunga Beach. Just look at their happy faces :)
We also greeted some Icelandic horses and contined to majestetic Kirkjufell Mountain 😍 What a beautiful day it was!

Icelandic horses are fearless, brave and self-confident. Their character has remained unchanged for hundreds of years since the Viking Age.

They are among the purest and most original horse breeds. Raised in harsh Icelandic weather conditions they are incredibly stong and desease-resistant.

Despite all this, they are also very gentle to humans, incredibly friendly and open to training. And just look at their cute messy hairstyle! How could we not love them? 😍

Last week we witnessed the most beautiful show of northern lights dancing above the mountains in Mosfellsbær, a small town near Reykjavík 😍
We didn't have much lights for couple weeks now, so the more exciting it was to see them finally appear.
