Fino al 29 agosto scopri la meravigliosa pala d’altare di Ugo da Carpi con la Veronica che dispiega il velo del Volto Santo. La tavola è stata “fatta senza pennello”, come è scritto dall’autore accanto alla firma e come riferisce Giorgio Vasari che la vide in San Pietro insieme a Michelangelo.

Quella di Ugo da Carpi “intagliatore” fu una sperimentazione audace, ingegnosa e senza precedenti che nessuno ebbe in seguito l’ardire di ripetere; un’opera unica nel suo genere perché eseguita non con l’arte della pittura, ma con la tecnica della stampa a matrici sovrapposte.

Una delle collezioni più importanti dell’Orto botanico di Firenze è quella degli Erbari storici, tra cui esemplari che risalgono al XVI secolo.

This last week I celebrated the autumn equinox with a very special tour of gardens in Tuscany!

Together with my colleague ToursbyMarie I led a delightful group of garden enthusiasts in many beautiful estates around Lucca and Florence.
We discovered the history and the botanical collection of Villa Reale at Marlia, visited the Baroque extravagant theatre of Flora in Villa Torrigiani at Camigliano.
Then we enjoyed breathtaking views over Florence from Villa Gamberaia in Settignano and Villa Medici in Fiesole.
And much much more...

It was a pleasure to share my passion for gardens with Marie and her guests! Thank you!

Let’s celebrate this day dedicated to museums with a small Florentine reality famous in the world: the Bardini Museum!
Created by the antiquarian Stefano Bardini (1836-1922) in 1922 is part of the city museums network.

🇮🇹 Giornata Internazionale dei Musei 2021
Ho deciso di celebrare il giorno dedicato ai musei con una realtà fiorentina piccola ma famosa nel mondo, il Museo Bardini!
L’antiquario Stefano Bardini (1836-1922) lo lascio al Comune di Firenze e da allora è parte del sistema museale dei musei civici della città.

🇬🇧 Today in many countries around the world it is celebrated the International Workers’ Day.
Labour Day honours work and the working classes...this year my thought goes especially to health system workers and to the workers who lost their lives and their jobs because of Covid-19.
As for myself I miss working every day in museums and most of all I can’t wait to return to meet people from all over the world and talk about art with them!
It will take time and it is important that we shall be able to do it in safety, but I trust that we will!

🇮🇹 Oggi in molti paesi nel mondo si celebra la Festa dei Lavoratori.
Il 1 Maggio celebra il lavoro e lavoratori e i loro diritti. Quest’anno il mio pensiero va innanzitutto ai lavoratori del sistema sanitario e a coloro che hanno perso la loro vita e il lavoro a causa della pandemia.
Per quanto mi riguarda mi manca lavorare tutti i giorni nei musei a contatto con visitatori da tutto il mondo e non vedo l’ora di poter tornare a parlare di arte con loro!
Ci vorrà del tempo e abbiamo bisogno di poterlo fare in sicurezza, ma sono sicura che ci riusciremo!

🇬🇧 Did you know that the architecture of the National Library in Florence celebrates Dante all over itself?
Maybe it’s not the most interesting architecture in Florence but I love what it stands for: books, art, knowledge, national treasures and world heritage.
And this is exactly why all the world together with Florence is celebrating Dante’s 700th anniversary this year!

🇮🇹 Sapevate che l’architettura della Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale Firenze celebra la figura di Dante?
Anche se non è un edificio tra i più famosi di Firenze amo molto quello che rappresenta: libri, arte, conoscenza, eredità culturale nazionale e patrimonio mondiale.

Le collezioni di rose del Giardino di Boboli sono cresciute nei secoli fino a contare numerose cultivar. Ma io ho un debole per questa Rosa Bankiae ‘Lutea’, e voi?

Il disegno, realizzato a penna e inchiostro, pietra nera su carta è tradizionalmente attribuito a Cherubino Alberti (1553-1615). Nato a Sansepolcro, Alberti lavorò a Roma come pittore ed incisore.

The artwork was drawn with pen and paper, black chalk on paper. It is traditionally considered by the Tuscan artist Cherubino Alberti (1553-1615) who worked in Rome as painter and engraver.

I had the best of fun @ Mud Pottery Club this morning decorating two tea cups!
It was a nice, safe and quiet break in this stressful times.
Highly recommended for its creative vibes and for the welcoming and patient owner Cristos.

Questa mattina mi sono davvero divertita decorando due tazze da tè.
Il club laboratorio di lavorazione della ceramica è un luogo carino e pieno di pace.
Ringrazio Cristos per la sua gentilezza e pazienza.
Chi ha una vena creativa non può non andare a scoprire questo posto a Firenze.
