Where to find Dante in Verona 🔎
Dante spent a lot of time in Verona and there are numerous locations where he is remembered, such as the places where he spoke, popularising his ideas, like the cathedral cloisters where there is a plaque dedicated to him in front of the Sant’Elena chapel. Or the church of Santa Maria della Scala, which was attended by the rulers of the city, and in Piazza dei Signori, also known as Piazza Dante, where there stands a statue of the great poet, who dominates the surrounding area. This statue, created by Ugo Zannoni from Carrara marble, standing on a three-metre high pedestal, was unveiled in 1865.
Dante’s love for Verona and the city’s love for the great poet still burn brightly: to mark the seven hundredth anniversary of his death in 2021, the city is organising a series of events to celebrate this deep bond, in honour of one of the most important people in Italy’s history, who found Verona a welcoming and peaceful city to live in.

Waiting for the reopening!
Thanks to the collaboration between the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia and the Google Cultural Institute, the Palazzo Ducale is part of Google Arts & Culture.
For Palazzo Ducale are uploaded 137 high resolution images of some of the most representative works of the collection and the museum display. These masterpieces include the San Cristoforo by Tiziano, paintings by Paolo Veronese or the Nettuno offre a Venezia le ricchezze del mare by Giambattista Tiepolo as well as the Paradiso by Jacopo and Domenico Tintoretto.

Before Christianity adopted the egg as a part of Easter traditions, the ancient Romans believed that "omne vivum ex ovo" - all life comes from the egg - and it was commonly a symbol of new birth after the winter when everything has lain dormant.
Easter in Italy is above all a religious celebration, and Easter egg tradition reflects that: during Lent, the weeks before Easter, neither meat nor dairy produce can be eaten and the tradition of hard-boiling eggs so as not to waste food, and painting them to be given as gifts and eaten on Easter Sunday is likely to have originated there.

EASTER TRADITIONS:
In Lombardia, the Colomba is the most famous dessert, a dove-shaped bread made with almonds, sugar and egg whites. Today this cake is known worldwide, but originates in the region that boasts Milan. Another northern tradition is the Pinza Pasquale from Trieste, a sweet bread with a three-point cross carved on top.
A Southern Easter tradition is the Casatiello from Naples, a salty cake containing cheese, sausage, salami, and even hard-boiled eggs. Catania, Sicily has a special kind of Easter cookies, aceddu cu’ l’ova. These cookies are simple and have different shapes (the most famous one being a dove), and once made they are given to family members and friends as a gesture of affection and good luck.

Enexpected events - Travel often holds a few unforseen events, as related by an affectionate client of Vertours who was about to miss boarding for a Pacific cruise. The 1000 Miglia 2021, the 39th historical re-enactment of the race of the Red Arrow, will take place from the 16th to the 19th of June.
For the first time, the most beautiful race in the world crosses the city centre of Verona.
On Saturday, June 19, the opening day of the Opera Festival, more than 375 vintage cars will arrive in front of the Arena.

In 1966 Rienzo Filippini decided to open Vertours in Galleria Pellicciai, where the third generation of the family still works today. His wofe Luisa began to work with him and after two years his eldest daughter Carla arrived to join her father. Together they reached the symbolic milestone of 2000 with the entry of her son Matteo. Carla Filippini still reminds everyone today that one of their strenghts is “...TO WIN THE CUSTOMER’S TRUST”.
