Silk Tours Cambodia offers you a chance to see rural Cambodia just 35 minutes outside the capital city Phnom Penh, come and relax and see how different the pace and way of life is for the local farmers, silk weavers and fishermen Usually, it would take a long time to get outside a major city to enjoy a relaxing day experiencing a farming and fishing culture. Fortunately, this is available within 3

5-45 minutes if you are on a short stay in Phnom Penh (including the boat ride to the island). Starting times are also flexible. The main highlights of the tour are visiting the school, where we are invited into the classroom, donate books, pens and crayons for the children. The children sing along with songs in English too, and it's a rewarding experience. The school is situated in Wat Kbal Koh within the grounds of the main temple on the island. The temple was helped to be restored by foreign investment and one of the most amazing stories of a returning monk. He escaped Cambodia due to the marginalisation of the Buddhist religion under the Khmer Rouge. The backstory is something after living in Asia for over two decades I'd never heard before. It is also a chance to see some of Cambodia's most delicate artwork and see what the monks are doing to teach the new generation of children to recycle. Something many countries in the world are struggling with. The monks have created innovative artwork out of soda cans which the children collect. We are also spreading the word about plastic waste. With more tours, we plan to donate more to the primary school to create a new class. The class we will push for will teach the children what plastic waste is doing to the fisheries in the Mekong River and beyond. You will also get a chance to pick herbs and fruits from our garden, and Sopheap will show you how to cook a Khmer dish for lunch, and you are welcome to cook along with her. Naturally, some fruits and herbs are seasonal but cooking Khmer with Sopheap is all year-round. We will also show you the award-winning long-tail boats that the islanders amazingly won the annual water boat race festival. Considering the islanders were pitted against the Army, Military and Navy, it is an excellent source of pride and quite an achievement. Put simply, they are cut from a different cloth here. There is also a drink that, when in the dry season, we will take you to the local brewery; for those who think of a traditional brewery in your country, it's certainly NOT! It's the island's idea of a brewery and surprises many of our customers. You can have a non-alcoholic or alcoholic drink and at the right time of day see a man climb a tree faster than most of us can run in a straight line! We will then take you to the Silk Farm. This is a chance to see the whole story from the cocoon stage right through to the final product, process and with a guide that explains each step. Cambodian silk is relatively unknown, but having sent samples to friends and family in different countries, they were very impressed with the quality. Some were unaware Cambodia even made silk, let alone the quality that matches Thailand and India. The Silk Farm has an opportunity to shop and buy the final product, see the weavers that live on sight and even sit on the Mekong after the tour and enjoy some refreshments there. During your time there you will have an English speaking guide. The guide will show you their entire process, from the cocoon stage to feeding them Mulberry leaves and then the unique way the silk is collected, cleaned and straightened, before the arduous task of making the garments. The statistics behind the number of hours that goes into how just a regular scarf is made will give you a whole new appreciation of generations of skill, craft and hard work. After this, we are happy to welcome you back home and take your time before heading back to Phnom Penh. We look forward to international travel turning back to some form of normality and to seeing you and showing you a unique experience in the Kingdom of Wonders. We wish you good health in the meantime. Kind regards
