Day 12- Today was a MUCH better day. I was feeling good, and back to my chipper self. We started out from our guesthouse at Kharikhola and made our way past beautiful valley views. So stunning, but it was HOT! We stopped for lunch at Thamdanda, where thankfully, things started to cool off. Due to construction, we were on a dirt road for the rest of the day. I saw my first mule trains, which are my new favourites, and before I knew it we were at our new home for the night, The Bee Hive Lodge in Paiya at 2660M. Easy peasy!

Tomorrow, we reach Phakding and this is where we will meet up with everyone on the ‘popular’ Everest base camp trek. We decided to come in the ‘traditional’ route via Jiri, the same route that Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay took for their 1953 expedition. I felt it important to experience these small quiet villages, tranquil trekking paths, and really take in the peace of this portion of the trek. With the addition of airports and new roadways, few people choose to come in via this route. We have passed literally hundreds of empty guesthouses, waiting for trekkers that won’t come. Yes, this adds a week onto our trek, but I am so grateful we made the choice to experience the magic of this serene trek. Let the madness begin tomorrow, where both the crowds and altitude start increasing, and we see how our bodies holds up.

Kyanjin Gompa is situated in Langtang National park, Rasuwa, Nepal. Standing at 3870 Meters from sea level, this valley is the last point in Langtang National Park. However, there are multiple peaks that you can climb from there. Langtang Valley trek is one of the popular hiking destinations for many trekkers. 19 miles trek from the nearest highway, you can complete the Overall trek in 6-7 days.
