Wishing you all a Happy Everest Day! Mt. Everest, 8848.86 m, one of the peaks on the eastern Himalaya in Nepal and the highest point on earth, was summitted by Tenzing Norkay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary on May 29, 1953. The Everest also known as "Chomolongma" literally "Holy Mother" by the local residents and "Sagarmatha" literally "Head of the World" in Nepali, is a symbol of eternal fortitude and courage that has long drawn man in explorative pursuits since its discovery in the mid 19th century. This is a day dedicated to all adventurers, explorers and trailblazers through the centuries and across the world.

Tihar is a very happy time in this part of the Himalayas. The 5-day Deepawali or Tihar, the also known as in Nepal dedicated to crows. and to honor dogs and cows respectively. The rituals celebrate man's special bond with birds and domestic animals.

Celebrating every part of life including those that otherwise seem mundane, is one of the many aspects of the Nepali culture and the Nepali way of life. Laxmi Puja dedicated to Laxmi, the Goddess of Abundance. I while the Newar community also celebrates in honor of the self. Tihar concludes with when brothers and sisters get together and perform rituals to celebrate their special bond.
