How do I sit longer in meditation 🧘‍♀️ without my feet going numb?

Numbness is our best meditation teacher. If you remove the teacher, you won’t be learning. If you have medical condition, using chair or bed is allowed and could turn your meditation into a sleeping or napping session. For most people, we have to learn to become friend with our teacher.

The desire to remove a discomfort is one of the common aversion and agitation that would rise to disturb our meditation. Life itself is full of different types of discomforts. Meditation is the training for us to be in equanimity even with numbness or all sorts of discomforts. That is also why the first 30 to 45 minutes are easy. The numbness built up making the last 46 to 60 minutes more difficult. It’s also the last 15 minutes of training has the most strength to break our old habit pattern of automatic reaction. So one sitting pose for the entire 60 minutes without fidgeting, scratching or moving. Meditation mat or pillows to prop our bum higher are fine and ergonomic.

something in your body, which is pleasant or unpleasant, that is vedanænupassanæ. Sometimes your mind becomes very calm and you see, oh, it is calm, which becomes dham- mænupassanæ. When you are mindful and you know there is mindfulness it is dhammænupassanæ.
