16-year-old Kaamya Karthikeyan of India has become the youngest Indian female to scale the world's highest peak, Mt. Everest.

Kaamya was accompanied by her father, S. Karthikeyan, a commander in the Indian Navy to the summit. They successfully scaled Mt. Everest at 12:50 pm on May 20, according to Dawa Steven Sherpa, Managing Director at Asian Trekking.

Kaamya broke the record previously held by Shivangi Pathak, who summited Everest at the age of 16 years and 10 months in 2018. Kaamya, at 16 years and nine months, now holds the record.

The father-daughter duo reached Camp 4 on the afternoon of May 19 and pushed for the summit that same night.

Kaamya is a Class XII student at Navy Children School, Mumbai, India.

A Nepali woman climber has set the world record becoming the fastest female to scale the world's highest peak in less than 15 hours.

Phunjo Jhangmu Lama from Gorkha stood atop Mt Everest at 6:23am this morning, reclaiming her title of the fastest woman climber on Everest, confirmed base camp officials.

According to Khim Lal Gautam, chief at the Expedition Monitoring Field Office at base camp, Phunjo started her ascend from the base camp at 3:52pm on Wednesday and reached the summit point at 6:23am on Thursday.

"She has scaled Everest in 14 hours and 31 seconds," Gautam shared, after verifying summit time with the expedition operator.

In 2018, Phunjo made headlines after reaching the Everest summit in 39 hours and 6 minutes. Later in 2021, Ada Tsang Yin-hung of Hong Kong broke Phunjo's record scaling the world's highest peak in 25 hours 50 minutes.

This season, being part of the TAG Nepal Everest expedition, Phunjo decided to reclaim her title, Shiva Bahadur Sapkota, General Secretary at Everest Summiteers Association, said, congratulating Phunjo for her remarkable feat.

Gautam, who verified her climb from the base camp, said that Phunjo's courage and determination were exceptional. Trained in the Swiss Alps and Nepal's Himalayas, Phunjo climbed Mt Everest on the auspicious occasion of Buddha Jayanti, calling for the world peace, Sapkota added.

Phunjo, who is the first Nepali female helicopter long-line rescuer, had already been awarded with the Tenzing-Hilary award by the government.

"I want to dedicate my climb for women's empowerment, mountain environment protection and world peace," the single mother told THT before heading for the expedition last month.

Born in Chhokangpaaro village of Tsum valley in Gorkha, Phunjo scaled Mt Everest, Mt Manaslu, Mt Cho Oyu and other peaks including Amdablam, Lobuche and Denali. She has also supported rural communities for their livelihood.

Rescuers have recovered a body of Mongolian climber near the south summit of Mt Everest this morning while another fellow climber has still gone missing, expedition organisers said.

Lakpa Sherpa, Expedition Director at 8K Expeditions, said that rescuers found body of Usukhjargal Tsedendamba from around 8,550m.

It seems that the climber fell down from the rope and stuck a few meters below the South Summit, Sherpa quoted rescuers as saying.

"They safely deposited his body there and further initiatives will be taken after coordinating with the victim's families at the end of this climbing season," Sherpa informed from the base camp.

Usukhjargal Tsedendamba and Prevsuren Lkhagvajav went missing above South Col as they headed for summit push on May 12.

Then, Nepali climbers were mobilised immediately to search for the missing climbers, Sherpa said.

Pechhumbe Sherpa, MingNurbu Sherpa, Arjun Karki and Lanka Ram Tamang were involved in the rescue mission, Sherpa shared.

"The fate of another climber Prevsuren is still unknown," he added. Search will also continue for the missing climber as next summit window will open after May 19.

Sites of cultural or ecological importance are designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Mount Everest Base Camp has been popular destination for trekkers since the very first expeditions to the Nepalese side of Everest in the 1953. To reach this part of the Himalaya within a limited time, we have devised this two week trek to Everest Base Camp which runs directly to and from Lukla. The Everest Base Camp trek, a very well known mountain trek, starts at the upper Phakding and follow the Dudh Kosi valley which climbs up to the Sherpa capital of Namche, a bustling bazaar that’s a junction for trekkers, the local Sherpa and expeditions on route to the mighty Mt. Everest. All along this part of the trail, villages are interspersed with magnificent forests of rhododendron, magnolia and giant firs. In both the early autumn and late spring, the flowers on this portion of the trek make it the kind of walk you will remember for a long, long time. From Namche, we trek along a high traversing path where we have our first good views of Everest and then head towards Thyangboche Monastery, which is a 2 hour climb. The monastery sits at 3867m in a clearing surrounded by dwarf firs and rhododendrons. The monastery is structurally located on a ridge top with commanding views of the Everest landscape. The view from this spot, seen to best advantage in the morning, is absolutely mesmerizing, stunning and is rightly deemed to be one of the most magnificent view in the world. We then descend to the Imja Khola and continue to the villages of Pangboche and Pheriche before finally approaching the Khumbu Glacier. We then follow the glacier, first to Lobuche, a vantage point for some spectacular views of the Ama Dablam, Taweche and other peaks and then hike to Gorak Shep to reach the Everest Base Camp. 📌 Bardiya National Park, Thakurdwara Bardiya Nepal. . Bardiya National park is the largest national park in the lowland Terai covering an area of 968 sq.km. The park situated in Nepal's Western Terai was established for protecting the representative ecosystems and conserving the habitat of tiger and its prey species. Initially, a small area was gazetted as the Karnali Wildlife Reserve in 1976. At that time, 1500 households of the Babai valley were relocated outside the park allowing the vegetation and wildlife to flourish. In 1982, it was renamed as Bardiya Wildlife Reserve, and in 1984 it was extended to its current size. The reserve was given the status of a National Park in 1988. 91 Greater One-horned Rhinoceros were translocated from Chitwan National Park to Bardia National Park in 1986, 1991, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2016 and 2017. In 1997, an area of 327 km2 surrounding the park was declared as a buffer zone, which consists of forests and private lands. The park and local communities jointly manage the buffer zone. Together they initiate community development activities and manage natural resources in the buffer zones. An elephant ride provides a different view of the park as one can go off the main trail, Morning and late afternoon is the ideal time to go on a ride. Karnali river is the suitable home for Gangetic dolphins. Babai valley is a majestic place to visit where flagship Rhino, tiger, and elephant can be cited in the wilderness site. 61 species of mammals, 513 species of birds, 42 herpetofauna and 120 fishes have been recorded from the park area. .
