A food tour of Old Delhi is a great way to experience local food without the risk of “Delhi Belly”. You also get to be submersed in the old city as you walk, take a rickshaw and a tuk tuk between the different eateries. 😋

Jaipur offers a magnificent 16th century fortress, the Amber Fort, one of India’s most iconic sights.
We took a jeep to ascend to the fort’s rear entrance, then walked around the fort (Adventure World’s Travel with Purpose ethos means they don’t support or offer the use of elephants as working animals in any of their destinations). The architecture was impressive!

Leaving Agra we headed towards Jaipur, stopping at the Chand Baori Stepwell (water well with a palace inside that the local royal family used to use) and Harshad Mata Temple where we had the opportunity to be blessed by a local priest.

We headed out of Delhi to visit Wildlife SOS which helps to take bears and elephants who are being mistreated by their owners and rescue them. They are then ‘pampered’ by the Wildlife SOS team as they are unable to be rehabilitated into the wild. It was a very sobering experience and I will definitely bear in mind how the animals are treated when considering wildlife experiences offered to tourists in the future.

India seems to have taxes upon taxes … however a “cow tax” wasn’t one we expected!!! 🤣
Cows are saved in India and are absolutely everywhere. The cow tax is added to luxury goods sold at the hotel where we were staying. The hotel donates the money to help cows who are sick or injured.

The Taj Mahal is one of the “Seven Wonders of the World” and you can understand why. Built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan to house the tomb of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, with no expense spared. The marble and intricate artwork is incredible. Sadly Robbie wasn’t allowed to enter.
Our guide has been to the Taj Mahal over 1,000 times, however this was the first time in the rain!!

‼️ Remember to check whether you have any Air New Zealand credits outstanding, and ensure you use them before they expire.

The airline’s $5.9bn in passenger revenue includes credits it think customers are highly unlikely to redeem.

Cows are sacred in India. They are everywhere - even sitting in the middle of the main highways with traffic having to go around them! 😳😂
According to our guide, cows stand in the middle of the road as the breeze of cars going by helps to keep them cool and the fumes from the cars keeps the flies away…

The rooftops of Delhi come alive in the evenings and locals fly their kites as the sun sets.
As they fly their kites they try to cut the ropes of the other kites so that theirs is the highest and the longest flying!

Another stop on a Kimberley cruise is Montgomery Reef. Tide levels drop sharply at low tide (approx. 10 metres between low/high tides), allowing the reef to emerge several meters above the water level. The water inside the reef pours out in increasingly active waterfalls.

Vansittart Bay in the Kimberley’s is home to a C53 plane wreck. During World War II the C53 used the wrong coordinates to travel from Perth to Broome. Due to it getting dark and low on fuel, the crash landed on the salt flat. Fortunately all four on board survived. The salt flat is also home to the Fiddler Crabs who make cute little sand balls all around their burrows.

🛑 Cordless GHDs Can’t Fly 🛑

A caution to those with the GHD cordless hair straighteners—you can no longer fly ex New Zealand with these modern marvels. 🚫😞🚫

Due to a change in AvSec guidelines the cordless GHDs are no longer permitted in carry-on OR in your checked baggage because they do not have a “flight mode”.

However, for those with the Dyson cordless version - you can still pop these in your carry-on bag as they do have a “flight mode”.

The friendly folk as AvSec are being as accommodating as possible and travellers may be able to pick up their straighteners on their return to New Zealand.
