🛑PSA: Cordless GHDs Can’t Fly 🛑

A caution to those with the ghd cordless hair straighteners—you can no longer fly ex New Zealand with these modern marvels. 🚫😞🚫

Due to a change in AvSec guidelines the cordless ghds are no longer permitted in carry-on or checked baggage because they do not have a travel mode.

https://aviation.govt.nz/passenger-information/what-can-i-bring/show/hair-straighteners?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR12kPrYQlicJo_nBiUtSh_9GPj94-MiwPtF2WDiDFYOOaf11QpFc5b_V9o_aem_zlFu-IrbXwRrZKyn2ZkoIg

However, for those with the Dyson cordless version—you are still all good to pop these in your carry-on bag as they do have a ‘flight mode’.

The friendly folk at Aviation Security Service - AvSec are being as accommodating as possible—& travellers may be able to pick up their straighteners on their return to New Zealand.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

And this is why you book through a travel agent.

The Heaps family booked a four-week holiday for five to London through Expedia, but arrived at the airport to be told they didn't have seats.

14/07/2022

For families Hawaii-bound for the school holidays, there are new car seat rules for children.

Booster seats are now required for kids up to 10 years & rear facing seats are the law for children up until 2 years old.

There are exemptions for commercial transfers.

This is great news

12/06/2022

Great news for those travelling to the US.

On June 10, 2022, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) rescinded the Order titled “Requirement for Negative Pre-Departure COVID-19 Test Result or Documentation of Recovery from COVID-19 for All Airline or Other Aircraft Passengers Arriving in the United States from any Foreign Country.”

This rescission takes effect for flights departing to the United States from a foreign country at or after 12:01am ET (4:01am GMT) on June 12, 2022

10/06/2022

The United States will drop from Sunday a 17-month-old requirement that people arriving in the country by air test negative for COVID-19, an official said, a move that follows intense lobbying by the airlines and the travel industry.

✈️ NZ TRAVEL DECLARATION TIPS ✈️

Filling out the New Zealand Traveller Declaration can be a a challenge. It could take a couple of minutes to upload your negative test…or it could result in a lengthy phone call and a conditional approval from the helpline.

But don’t panic, there are workarounds in place to get you on the plane!

Here’s some tips:

1. Start your form before you leave and remember Kiwis don’t need to enter their vaccination details. Write your application reference number down; and then all you need to do (once you have your negative pre-departure test result) is upload a photo of the test and submit.

2 If you are getting your RAT at the airport pre-departure allow plenty of time, just in case.

3. If possible, use a web browser such as Chrome to upload the negative test result as the on-line system continues to be ‘hit and miss’ using Safari (one person can upload their test fine, the person sitting next to them cannot). The Safari issue is something the govt is aware of and is working on.

4. If you are having some challenges uploading your test result, find out what time check-in closes for your flight and call the NZTD helpline.

If all else fails uploading the result & check-in is about to close, the NZTD customer support staff can issue a conditional approval and you can just manually show your test result.

5. Once your NZTD is approved you will need to show the airline check-in staff a screen shot of the emailed PDF.

If you need help in New Zealand, ph 0800 359 269; if you are in Australia, ph 1800 359 269; and if you are calling from overseas, ph +64-4-931 5799.

✈️ NEW ZEALAND BORDER UPDATE ✈️

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has confirmed that the government has brought forward the full re-opening of New Zealand’s border to 2359, 31 July.

Ships will be sailing into New Zealand waters once again as well, with the Government confirming today that our maritime border will also open from 31 Jul.

03/02/2022

From 28 February 2022, fully-vaccinated New Zealanders and eligible travellers living in Australia, will be able to visit or return to New Zealand without staying in MIQ.

Self-isolation requirements will be the same as for contacts isolating in the community. This will be for 10 days if our Omicron response is still in the first phase, and will reduce to seven days during phases two and three. Isolating travellers need to complete self-administered Rapid Antigen Tests during self-isolation and return a negative before leaving self-isolation.

From 14 March, vaccinated New Zealanders and eligible travellers, skilled workers and those on a working holiday visa, living anywhere in the world can enter New Zealand without staying in MIQ.

Eligible travellers include New Zealand citizens, permanent residents or resident visa holders, holders of a critical purpose visas or partners of a holder of a critical purpose visa.

A new traveller declaration system will be used from late March to collect relevant information prior to travellers arriving in New Zealand, including their vaccination status, test results and travel history.

All other visa holders will be able to enter New Zealand in stages over the next eight months, starting on 13 April.

More information on the plans to reopen New Zealand’s borders can be found here: https://www.covid19.govt.nz/border-plan
