🌍 This Conservation Week/Te Wiki Tiaki Ao Tūroa, we’re shining a light on light pollution. But what is it?

Light pollution is the human-made alteration of natural light levels, particularly at night. Unlike other forms of pollution, it’s often overlooked, yet it affects both humans and wildlife. Join us as we explore how it impacts the pristine skies of Aotearoa New Zealand and what we can do to help preserve them. ✨

Our Story

At Dark Sky Project, formerly Earth & Sky, we strive to connect manuhiri (visitors) to the relevance of the night sky via scientific and cultural experiences, creating a lifelong understanding and passion for the dark sky above.

Located in Takapō (Tekapo) in the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve, we’re proud to be leaders in astro-tourism experiences and advocates for dark sky preservation.

In July 2019 we take our next big step, launching a new multi-media daytime astronomy experience that combines tātai aroraki (Māori astronomy) and science, a new lakefront Diner and a place for everyone to discover and to be inspired by what lies above.
