It was a very cold and frosty morning here at the Nelson Lakes. Probably the coldest so far as everything was frosted over... but not my vehicles!!!

I'm ecstatic. Our 4th season has come to a successful 'close' and the 5 star reviews keep coming. This 'A' group of 10 from a North Island tramping club just knocked off the . With the right weather May and June are the best times to avoid the crowds in the huts. Imagine having the Heaphy Hut to yourselves....they did!!!. I'm taking some time off driving but my other drivers and the vehicles are rearing to go during the winter.

Today. Scenic flight over home territory. Courtesy of AirNZ Nelson to Christchurch flight. Views of the Howard Valley (home for me), Lake Rotoroa, Sabine and D'Urville valleys along with snow capped mountains. Just as I opened a new book to read ' Woman in the Wilderness'. Am trying to picture living in a tent in those snowy conditions as Miriam had. Brrrrrr. Trampers be warned and prepared🙏if you're heading to the mountains soon.

We're looking for a driver.
These past two weeks have been difficult as my driver got CoVid and was unwell. It was hard for me to turn down last minute requests for transfers but I had to.
Know anyone with P endorsement that might like to hang out in the Nelson Lakes for some weeks this summer? Not a full time job so time to 'play' too.

What's up DOC? Well new signage at the Mt Robert Carparks and an entrance way. Pity they didn't think that people liked to have their photo taken at the sign at the top carpark. New signs have been hung in the new entrance /waharoa. Sad to say it's a bit cramped to get your group photo taken in there. The information is great though. Hopefully it will scare off those who are poorly prepared for the Alpine tramping conditions.
