Robben Nests

Robben Nests Robben Nests Lovingly handcrafted in Wellington, New Zealand, the Robben Nest is perfect as a gift or to invest in your baby’s sleep. So why a Robben Nest?

Robben Nests
The Robben Nest, based on the original Swedish-designed baby nest, is a cocoon with soft padded edges which offers a safe and cosy bed for your baby. The sleeping space created by the nest gives security to your baby, similar to the enclosed space of the womb, ideal for settling and sound sleeping as they adjust to life outside their mother’s body. Use your Robben Nest as a protective

space for safe co-sleeping in your bed, or for comfortable sleeping in the bassinet, cot, buggy, or other flat surface. With the intensive and sporadic feeding and sleeping pattern of a newborn baby, Robben Nests are a great solution to help parents manage their baby’s sleep. The nest can be placed on the couch or bed to easily transfer a sleeping baby to, to keep them close to you, and for ease of picking them up when they wake for feeding. Worried about keeping your newborn warm? You can warm the nest near a heater before using it, or whilst baby is up for feeding, so they have a warm bed to go back to. Tuck a blanket over and around baby and nestle them into the cocoon, in a similar style to swaddling. The nest can also double as a feeding pillow, folding and tucking it under baby. Travel with ease with your Robben Nest. It can be rolled up easily to stow in the car, providing a great solution for a portable bed by using it on a bed or other flat surface. Robben Nests are perfect to travel with so baby feels at home even when you are away, and ensures you’ll always have a safe sleeping space for baby. With all the baby equipment sold to expecting parents, it’s hard to know what will be useful – the Robben Nest is the one item you cannot do without. The Robben Nest and its uses
Your nest fits well in bassinets, cots and buggies to create more reassurance, familiarity and comfort in otherwise large spaces. Using your Robben Nest as you progress baby from one type of sleeping space to the next can help ease the transition by giving them familiar surroundings, for example when transitioning from the bassinet or your bed into their cot. Your Robben Nest has been designed with safety and comfort in mind. The soft, low edges of the nest are designed so that baby can see out to familiar surroundings and you can keep eye contact with your baby when lying next to it, or whilst watching them settle and sleep. This allows for safety but also ease in comforting and maintaining a bond with your baby. The edges are also soft enough for you to lie on when breastfeeding in a lying down position if needed. The Robben Nest and your growing baby
The size of the nest can be adjusted to your baby by releasing or tightening adjustment cords, and then releasing them completely once your baby’s legs extend beyond the end of the nest. In this way, Robben Nests can be used for newborns and up to four or five months of age (for babies not yet able to roll). How to use your Robben Nest
• Your nest can be used in the bed, bassinet, cot, buggy, or other flat and safe surface
• Protect the nest with a thin blanket, older style cloth nappy or baby bed sheet
• Place the nest on a flat surface at a safe distance from any edge
• Pull the adjustment cord to adjust the size and tuck any cord remaining under the mattress
• The adjustment cord should always be at the foot-end of the nest
• Never carry your baby around in the nest
• Use the safe sleeping guidelines as advised by the Ministry of Health (see below)

How to wash your Robben Nest
Your Robben Nest can be hand washed separately in cold or warm water. Ensure that the adjusting adjustment cord knot/toggle is tied securely before washing. Dry your nest in a tumble dryer or just shake and massage the nest back to shape and dry flat. Dimensions and materials of your Robben Nest
Inside dimensions: Approximately 60 x 30cm
Outside dimensions: Approximately 80 x 50cm
Base thickness: 0.5cm
Your Robben Nest can be opened out at the end, extending the length beyond these dimensions to fit your growing baby. Materials
Robben Nests are lovingly handmade in New Zealand, partially or fully made from upcycled fabrics. Materials are thoroughly washed before use, and every effort is made to select material in good condition. Generally the nests are made from cotton, and cotton lace edging. Nests are stuffed with synthetic pillow stuffing and secured with a synthetic cord (some are also secured with an optional plastic toggle). The plastic toggle is securely in place, however you may remove this and simply secure with a knot in the cord. Safe sleeping for babies (from the Ministry of Health, New Zealand)
To keep your baby safe while sleeping, make sure:
• They always sleep on their back to keep their airways clear
• They are in their own bassinet, cot or other baby bed
• They are put back in their own bed after feeding
• They have someone looking after them who is alert to their needs and free from alcohol or drugs
• They have clothing and bedding that keeps them at a comfortable temperature
• They are in a room where the temperature is kept at about 20°C

Baby’s bed is safe when:
• It has a firm and flat mattress to keep your baby’s airways open
• There is nothing in the bed that might cover your baby’s face, lift their head or choke them
• Baby has their feet close to the end of the bed so they can’t burrow under the blankets
• Baby is in the same room as the person looking after them at night

See the Ministry of Health website for full information on safe sleeping.
