A POWERFUL earthquake struck off the coast of Papua New Guinea on Saturday, generating a small tsunami and knocking out power in parts of the Pacific island nation.

Earthquake 100 km off Rabaul last night. 7.9 on the Richter Scale. No boats or building damaged. Tsunami warning. Rabaul/Kokopo is on a floating magma chamber and sitting on compacted pumice so the earthquake was a long and slow one. Motion sickness.....
