Mount Kilimanjaro is a dormant volcano in Tanzania with three volcanic cones Kibo, Mawenzi and Shira. It is the highest mountain in Africa and the highest single free-standing mountain in the world: 5,895 metres (19,341 ft) above sea level and about 4,900 metres (16,100 ft) above its plateau base.

Is it possible to climb Mount Kilimanjaro?

Absolutely yes, all you need is determination and will get to the summit. No any technical climbing skills needed. You may have some fitness exercise/training before which will give yourself the best chance of climbing safely and successfully

How many days does it take?

Depends on routes, It takes from 5 to 9 Days to complete hiking, the greater the number of days on the mountain, the better your chances of reaching the top. Therefore the key to a safe, successful climb is to take the longest routes possible.

Tours give you itineraries with recommendation of either 6 Days Marangu route, 7 Days Machame Route, 7 Days Rongai Route or 8 Days Lemosho Route. The Machame route is also known as the "Whiskey" route. It is one of the most popular routes on Kilimanjaro. On an overall comparison of the routes to scale Kilimanjaro, this is one of the best routes to take, both in terms of acclimatization and cost.

Machame Gate (1828m) – Machame camp (3020m) - This day takes 7 hours Approximately 11 km and the vegetation is Montane forest

Machame camp (3020m) – Shira camp (3847m) – This day takes 6 hours Approximately 5.2 km and the vegetation in Moorland

Shira Camp (3847m) to Lava Tower (4642m) to Barranco camp (3984m) - This day takes 7 hours Approximately 10.7 km and vegetation is Semi-desert

Barranco camp (3984m) – Karanga camp (4040m) - This day takes 6 hours Approximately 6 km with vegetation of vegetation is Semi desert

Karanga camp (4040m) – Barafu camp (4681m) - This day takes 3 hours Approximately 3.4km Habitat with vegetation of Alpine desert

Barafu camp (4681m)-Uhuru Peak (5895m)-Mweka (3090m)

ARUSHA NATIONAL PARK

Arusha National Park covers Mount Meru, a prominent volcano with an elevation of 4566 m, in the Arusha Region of north eastern Tanzania. The park is small but varied with spectacular landscapes in three distinct areas. In the west, the Meru Crater funnels the Jekukumia River; the peak of Mount Meru lies on its rim. Ngurdoto Crater in the south-east is grassland. The shallow alkaline Momella Lakes in the north-east have varying algal colours and are known for their wading birds.

The Park has a rich variety of wildlife, Despite the small size of the park, common animals include giraffe, Cape buffalo, zebra, warthog, the black-and-white colobus monkey, the blue monkey, flamingo, elephant, lion and many other African animals. Birdlife in the forest is prolific, with many forest species more easily seen here than elsewhere on the tourist route

Route - Hiking Mount Kilimanjaro

The Marangu Route (also known at the "Coca-Cola" route) is the easiest ascent of Kilimanjaro, although any ascent can be challenging. Climbs can be done over 6 days. It crosses The Saddle, a 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) wide, high-altitude, semi-desert that separates craggy Mawenzi from the main summit Kibo. From the summit, glaciers, screes, cliffs, afro-alpine moorland, and forests lead down to the cultivated foothills.

The Marangu route is a favorite of local tour operators as it's the shortest route and requires no camping gear to be carried. For this reason it is often the cheapest option. Trekkers sometimes spend an extra day to acclimate to the altitude at Horombo Hut. Also, trekkers often start the final ascent to Uhuru Peak early from Kibo Hut, because the scree is easier to climb when frozen, and dawn views from the crater rim are often spectacular.
