Mother nature can’t stop having us curious about her ways. This time gorillas are what she is revealing to our knowledge.
She finds gorillas to be the largest living primates and their DNA is highly similar to that of humans, making them the next closest living relatives to dear humans.
The wild, tropical and sub-tropical forests are what keep gorillas at their best comfort . Mountain gorillas like their name suggests dwell in mountains at elevations of 8000 to 13000 feet.
Foliage is what charms their appetite this includes leaves, stems, pith, shoots and a bit of fruits. Consuming succulent vegetation that is comprised of almost half water as well as morning dew, mountain gorillas rarely drink water. This healthy diet allows gorillas to live for 35-50years.
Life is emotionally rich for mountain gorillas. Just like humans mountain gorillas grieve, feel happy, get excited and all this they can ably express by making different sounds for example deep, rumbling belches suggest contentment.
The gorillas also belong to families and they are referred to as troops. A troop is headed by a silverback and it consists of mostly females and their young ones. Living together in troops mountain gorillas develop strong bonds.
The Silverback mates with the females in the troop. Mother gorilla carries her baby in the womb for about 8.5months, enough time to bring a life in the wild. At the age of three baby gorilla is independent to build their nest. It is made of branches and leaves and here it spends the cold nights.
During day mountain gorillas spend most of their time together walking on both their feet and hands , hanging on tree branches and one excitedly waits for their next move.
Being an endangered species it is such an honor to have half of the mountain gorilla population in Uganda.
