BRIDGES THAT WOMEN HAVE BURNT
Have you ever wondered what women can do when given the opportunity? So many a time,
we don’t. The problem began when we started to view women as grass in our yards, supposed
only to conform, beautify and please. And thus when a blade of grass tries to rise above the
others or stand out, it becomes w**d to be trimmed. And when we cannot trim or modify it
we try as much as we can to get rid of it entirely. Not until we give women a platform, shall
we realise the enormous contribution they put forward in our communities, circles, at our jobs
and our country at large.
There is a tribe of women who have continuously battled and eventually paved their way
through sticky wickets. A case in example are the female tourist guides. Over time, the
tourism industry like many other fields has been male dominated; however, women have
started rising up to represent oneself and eventually become an epitome of excellence. Some
of the typical examples are; Judith Mirembe who is the chairperson of Uganda Women
Birders’ club, a bird guide and researcher with a passion for birds, keen on conservation as
well as protection of wildlife habitats. We also have Nakate Jamila who is a safari guide, a
tour consultant passionate about conservation of wildlife and their habitats, Veronica nakaffero a female tourist guide who is very enthusiastic about birds . It is against such
ground that we as a company have decided to set up tourism up programs to support females
who are interested in conservation, wildlife and tourism as a whole.
Some of the targets we have for the women include;
1.Providing them with the necessary gears and equipment they will require to execute a
successful safari. These include; Bird books, binoculars, safety boots, nature blending
cargo clothes, hats and many other equipment.
2.Subjecting them to an intensive field guide training course that will empower them
with the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities needed as a safari guide.
3. In the long run, we also wish to support them by extending financial and welfare
assistance which will be done by providing employment opportunities to them.
