Pangolins are a type of mammal that are characterized by their unique appearance and behavior. They are covered in scales that are made of keratin, the same material as human hair and nails, which provides them with protection from predators. There are eight species of pangolins, all of which are found in Africa or Asia.

Pangolins are solitary animals and are primarily nocturnal, spending much of their day sleeping in underground burrows or hollow trees. They are insectivorous and feed mainly on ants and termites, which they catch using their long, sticky tongues.

Pangolins are unfortunately one of the most trafficked animals in the world due to the high demand for their meat and scales in traditional Chinese medicine and as a luxury food item. As a result, all eight species of pangolins are listed as either vulnerable, endangered, or critically endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Conservation efforts are underway to protect these unique animals and prevent their extinction.

The 14-day Uganda safari can be a great way to explore the natural beauty and wildlife of Uganda. There are many different itineraries variations available, but here is a sample itinerary to give you an idea:

Day 1: Arrival in Kampala, transfer to hotel (Midrange/luxury)
Day 2: Drive to Murchison Falls National Park (stay inside the park with wildlife around)
Day 3-4: Game drives and boat trips in Murchison Falls NP (see the big 4)
Day 5: Drive to Kibale Forest National Park (walk to the tropical forest to see apes)
Day 6-7: Chimpanzee trekking and nature walk in Kibale Forest NP
Day 8: Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park
Day 9-10: Game drives and boat trips in Queen Elizabeth NP
Day 11: Drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (TO SEE MOUNTAIN GORILLAS)
Day 12-13: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi NP
Day 14: Drive back to Kampala and departure

This itinerary provides a mix of wildlife viewing and cultural experiences and allows for some optional activities to tailor the itinerary to your interests. Of course, it can be further customized based on your preferences.

Travel Tips:
1. Please note the age limit of 15 years and above for gorilla tracking.
2. Book your permits well in advance as only 8 permits are issued per gorilla group in a day. There are 14 habituated gorilla groups in Bwindi.
3. You should be free from infectious diseases such as Flue which can be passed to the gorillas since humans share 98% of DNA with gorillas. If you are found to carry an infectious disease you will not be allowed to track.
4. Every participant has the chance to hire a trekking assistant (porter) who will help carry the bags and support them whenever it is needed. For the trekking assistant, an additional fee of US$ 15 is charged.

OPTIONAL: Are you interested in getting a close-up experience with the Lions? Then book the LION EXPERIENTIAL at Queen Elizabeth National Park and get closer to the big cats than anyone else, as you will leave the main tracks and drive on unbeaten tracks through the park accompanied by the Cat Doctor.

What to bring:
1. Walking boots, long trousers and rain gear as you will be hiking through Bwindi Forest.
2. Sunscreen is recommended.
3. Mosquito repellant is advisable.
4. We will provide 1-3 litres of drinking water per person during the trekking.
5. Binoculars are always useful, especially when booking the Hot Air Balloon Safari.

Ground Hornbill (Bucorvus leadbeateri), black with white primaries; red face and throat wattles; terrestrial, in distance resembles a domestic turkey. Feeds on frogs, crickets, lizards, small baby birds, and small snakes. Female has light blue face while the male has a red face. They pair up for life.
