The Uganda Wildlife Authority is in the final stages of introducing ten white rhinos to Kidepo Valley National Park. This initiative aims to enhance tourism and modify the park's ecosystem. These rhinos will be acquired from Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, an animal sanctuary in Uganda. Established in 2005 to re-introduce the Southern-White-Rhinos in the wild, the sanctuary is the only place in the country, where one can observe these endangered creatures in the wild (for now).

The Murchison Falls Conservation Area team, prompted by a report, located a giraffe ensnared in a poacher's wire trap. They were able to provide treatment, and ongoing monitoring is underway.

The White Rhino is not really white; it's more of a grayish color. A mistranslation may have given rise to the name. The story goes that Dutch speakers (and later, Afrikaans speakers) in South Africa used the word 'wijd' to describe the rhinos, which English speakers understood to mean 'white'. Instead, 'wijd' means 'wide' in English and was meant to describe not the color of the rhino, but the shape of its mouth, which is wider than the mouths of other rhino species. Whether or not the story is true, some prefer to call it the 'square-lipped rhinoceros' rather than the white rhinoceros. Poaching and trophy hunting take a toll on all rhino populations. Zoos and wildlife preserves are working to educate people and save the magnificent animals from extinction. Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary in Uganda is one of such places providing a safe haven for these animals.
