Following a challenging four weeks doing pro bono work for two immigrant families detained and separated at the border from their children, we have obtained complete victory for them! Today both women have orders reversing a negative finding that would have seen them deported without their children. Now they are released from separate detention centers and together with their children, and are moving through asylum proceedings. There are things you can do to push back against 'Google Scholars.' Here are a few of my suggestions.
My pro bono legal project for 2016 is to study the Texas dangerous/vicious dogs laws and then to produce self-help materials for dog owners (who usually can't afford attorneys), to educate animal control officers and judges about the laws/ordinances, and...sigh...yes... to revise the laws that are cruel, unrealistic and that kill dogs that are not really dangerous. Many have stepped up to say they will help. If anyone wants to be a part of this project, let me know. It's a big project.
