Hospitality Insiders Reveal Secrets to Free Hotel Upgrades
Hospitality experts at Stock have shared their insider tips to help you snag a better room without spending a penny more.
1. Time your check-in strategically
Arrive later in the day to boost your chances of an upgrade. By then, the hotel knows exactly which rooms are available. But don't show up too late, as the front desk may be swamped with the evening rush.
2. Join loyalty programmes
Many hotels offer loyalty programmes that provide perks to frequent guests.
Even if you're not a regular visitor, signing up for these programmes can sometimes lead to preferential treatment and potential upgrades.
3. Book directly with the hotel
Skip the third-party booking sites and book directly with the hotel. This not only gives you more flexibility but also increases your chances of an upgrade, as hotels have more control over their direct reservations.
4. Mention special occasions
Celebrating a birthday, anniversary, or other special event? Let the hotel know! Many places love to help guests celebrate by offering an upgrade, if they have one available.
5. Ask politely
Sometimes, the simplest tactic works best. When you check in, politely ask if any upgrades are available. Be ready for a no, but you might get a pleasant surprise.
Stock’s experts add, “Hotel staff genuinely want guests to have a great experience. If they can accommodate an upgrade request, they'll often be happy to do so, especially for guests who treat them with respect and understanding.”
"Hospitality workers often deal with demanding guests, so when someone is genuinely kind, it stands out,”
Approach your stay with a positive attitude, and you'll likely have a wonderful experience regardless of your room type. Credit:
