Stunning views over Hurricane Hole all the way down the Sir Francis Drake Channel to Virgin Gorda greet you every morning from your bed. The two bedroom house, swimming pool, decks, and open living room & kitchen provide all the amenities for a simple and serene escape on St. We don’t believe in going for baroque. We believe in living within our means, both personally and as members of the human r
ace. This is one of the reasons it took us almost ten years to buy the land and build this off-the-grid and eco-sensitive place in paradise. If you are looking for the baroque, Arawak Villa is not the place for you. If you want to be somewhere that has simple comfort, sparkling sunrises, and an unsurpassed view of turquoise waters of Hurricane Hole and the historic Sir Francis Drake Channel, then check us out. We overlook the pristine Virgin Islands National Park and have no neighbors. Arawak Villa: simple, serene, stunning. Simple doesn’t mean uncomfortable, skimpy, or stingy. The two bedrooms are on the lower level, with a bath in between that boasts an outdoor shower that's under cover – you get killer views but no rain! You’ll find two divinely comfortable queen sized canopy beds with complete mosquito netting coverage, ample closet space, colorful towels for shower and beach. The main level has plenty of space to enjoy all the beauty of St. John from the covered porches and open terrace around the pool. There are chaises lounges for basking in the sun, a gas grill, and an outdoor table to enjoy meals al fresco. Indoors, you’ll find a well-appointed kitchen with a breakfast bar and island. The open Great Room has comfy places to sit and share time with your family and friends and a dining area with an expanding table with room for up to 12. It’s in this area that you will also find a half bath and the laundry area with washer and dryer. Four pairs of French doors, two with screens, blur the line between indoors and out and provide cross ventilation. There are ceiling fans in all rooms to help move the air should the breeze die down (which happens very rarely). Of course, we have everything you need for days spent on the beach: comfy beach chairs with back-pack straps for easy transport, water hammocks for rocking on the gentle blue water, picnic table ware, and two coolers provide plenty of room for food and libations! Now that we’ve told you all the things that the house has, let’s tell you what it doesn’t! Arawak Villa is off-the-grid, which means we don’t have municipal electricity or water. We make all our own power (thanks to roof-mounted solar panels and a back-up generator) and we use only the water that comes from rain. What this means is that we ask that you leave your hairdryer at home. It means that you have plenty of solar hot water, but we ask that you be conscious about how you use it. Because we want to live lightly, we don’t have air conditioning as that is the single largest energy consumer for houses in the tropics. But, because we spent time living on the land before we built, the house is perfectly sited to capture the breezes that keep it cool. Additionally, we have fans to move the air as well as light blankets, because you may find that you are chilly! Take a look at the photos, check out our pricing, and then look at our calendar. Drop us a line with questions that we haven’t answered here. Arawak Villa awaits you. Simple, serene, stunning.
