Awesome volunteer opportunity for our time honored Depoe Bay Salmon Bake scheduled for Saturday September 21, 2024. We need 200+volunteers.

History of the Depoe Bay Salmon Bake-

The Depoe Bay Salmon Bake started in 1956. It was a merger of two local events: a fish derby and a potluck event for indigenous people of the Northwest called “Indian Summer and Homecoming.” The salmon is baked in the traditional native style, over an open fire on cedar planks.

The salmon bake represents the rich history and culture of Depoe Bay, which is a small coastal town in Oregon. It is also a celebration of the salmon, which is a vital part of the local ecosystem. The salmon bake is a popular event, and it attracts people from all over the region.

Typically solitary creatures, octopuses aren't exactly neighborly when fellow cephalopods encroach on their personal space, even if it means turning just about anything in reach into a weapon.

Cephalopods like octopuses, squids and cuttlefish are highly intelligent animals with complex nervous systems. In Science Advances, a team led by Nikolaus Rajewsky of the Max Delbrück Center has now shown that their evolution is linked to a dramatic expansion of their microRNA repertoire.
