Mayor Connor Martin, East Hartford Fire Department, and East Hartford Police Department came together this morning at ShopRite (East Hartford) to #helpbaghunger! Each year this event is an opportunity to support the local community, bring awareness to food insecurity, and meet awesome residents!
🚨NEW FIRE ENGINE, WHO DIS?!🚨 We are so excited to welcome new Engine Truck 3 to the East Hartford Fire Department fleet! 🚒We are actually receiving THREE new Seagrave Fire Apparatus trucks this Fall, each of which are outfitted with state of the art features including a UV cab filtration system, which keep operators safe from bacteria and germs. We celebrated the arrival of Engine 3 with a long-held tradition called a “push-in ceremony” which dates back to the days of horse-drawn equipment when fire service members had to push equipment back into the back when returning from a call.

On this #EarthDay we encourage you to think about #ReduceReuseRecycle!
Do you know how recycling works? Have you ever wondered what happens to all the material you put into your recycling blue cart once it leaves your house?
We visited the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) we work with, located in Berlin, CT. Take a look at how they turn ordinary everyday recyclable items like paper, cardboard, metal, cans, plastic jugs, and bottles into reusable raw materials for manufacturing new products.
Today we raise the flag in recognition of Donate Life Month! #donatelife
Women's History Month: Kristin
Today's #womenshistorymonth post is dedicated to Animal Control Officer Kristin Judd. Kristin is a highly essential member of the police department as she responds to deal with sick and injured wildlife, as well as domesticated animals. Her teammates describe her as professional, kind, and knowledgeable. Coworkers have noted they especially respect her composure in the most emotional situations involving animals, and her ability to work carefully and quickly during emergencies.
Her teammates feel she sets the bar high for all female coworkers and sets the precedence that woman are just as strong, independent, and capable as men. Being able to work with animals who don’t communicate the same language is enough of a challenge but she is able to not only work with the animals, but their owners, often on their worst days.
Way to go Kristin, you are making history RIGHT NOW!
Womens History Month: Chante
As a Library Specialist at Raymond Library, Chante Wilson has played a vital role in growing and promoting books that tell the stories of all women, including LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC women, which historically have been underrepresented. Because of her thoughtful dedication to her job, Raymond Library's books more closely represent the patrons of the East Hartford community and share the stories of ALL women.
Chante is a strong advocate both to staff by raising awareness of the diverse voices that should be added to the library collections, and to patrons by sharing information about what has been added to the collections, through her monthly displays and enthusiastic one-to-one interactions.
Let's continue to celebrate #womenshistorymonth with women who are making history right here and right now in East Hartford!
We are honoring women who are making history TODAY! Today's #womenshistorymonth shoutout goes to Brittney Cavaliere, community volunteer. Brittney's community involvement includes Chair of the East Hartford Alumni Association and Education Foundation, serving as a coach for Parks & Rec girls basketball, and more. In 2020 she was recognized as a 40 under Forty honoree by Hartford Business Journal. Thanks for making a difference in our community, Brittney!
Women's History Month: Angelica Rodriguez
Today, for Women's History Month, we honor Angelica Rodriguez, Records Clerk for East Hartford Police Dept! Angie's coworkers describe her as quick to offer her services to the citizens of East Hartford. Her hard work, dedication, and attitude have made a significant impact to their unit and its achievements.
She is known for being extremely organized and continuously learning and developing the best practices to do her job efficiently and accurately. Angie has demonstrated personal commitment to civic endeavors outside of her professional obligations as Union President. She has demonstrated innovation and creativity, and always advocates for the female employees of East Hartford PD. Angie has successfully demonstrated her abilities as an individual, a team member, and a leader. She has a willingness to serve and assist other women in their personal and professional development.
What happens when the wrong things go into recycling?
When you throw things in the recycling blue cart that aren't meant to be recycled, it can damage recycling equipment and contaminate other clean recycled materials. Improper recycling (or "wishcycling") has consequences for single-stream recycling and may expose Materials Recovery Facilities employees to any danger. In addition, the recycling facility charges $115 for unacceptable tons. We appreciate your desire to recycle and comply with CT recycling regulations- it's so important! - but please be thoughtful about what you place in the blue cart: when in doubt, throw it out in your green trash cart.
Remember East Hartford recycles clean!
Let's continue to celebrate #WomensHistoryMonth with East Hartford women making history right now!
Before she was a Leather Genie, Gracia Hemans was born in Kingston, Jamaica. Growing up as an extremely artistic and creative child, she was introduced to leather crafting at an early age. By age 14, she could make a leather shoe from scratch!
She spent the next 25 years honing her talents and in 2006, made her dream of opening a storefront a reality.
Since then, she has specialized in hand-making leather products. Each item is crafted with love and care from top quality leather and built to last! GRASSILLINI CREATIONS
East Hartford celebrates Women's History Month with women making history right here and right now!
The digital navigation team at the East Hartford Public Library is dedicated to closing the digital divide in East Hartford, helping residents to get online through 1:1 digital skills training, access to devices, and assistance with signing up for affordable home internet.
This all-female team is made up of pioneers in the field of digital navigation and this team was one of the first program of its kind in Connecticut, thanks to a pilot grant from the Connecticut State Library.
#WomensHistoryMonth *FEATURE*
Like a lot of good family stories, Perfect Poundcakes LLC. started with a Grandmother’s secret recipe; so secret it was never written down -- a little of this and a little of that. But once you’ve tasted magic, you can’t let it go, so Tamika Mitchell and her husband developed an unparalleled pound cake batter, that we had baked to perfection, and that lived up to Grandma Amaree’s standards of scrumptiousness.
Her now trademarked Poundcup is a cupcake shaped pound cake with homemade buttercream frosting. It has all the convenience of a cupcake, but all the flavor and texture of their perfect pound cakes!
