Glad to be here after 10 weeks of rentals! This came up on the random playlist...

Our first and only Independence Day at our beach house was in 2022, before we had renters. But it was quite memorable! The fireworks along the first row homes were so fun to watch!!!

New feature at EmOceanal Rescue at Emerald Isle Beach, NC ... Shibumi holes installed in the pool deck! Two positions on each side allowing 4 possible configurations to suit your pool shade needs. Better than rigging the deck chairs to do the same, this innovation idea's credit goes to John Winterroth and thanks to Seth Dillard for drilling assistance!

Pretty obvious, but worth noting.

Our friend John Winterroth brought his cool new drone and made some nice videos today around the house!

I like this outlook.

We will keep watching , but a few things to think about. One week from today, next Thursday, it will still only be just South of Bermuda and east of the Bahamas. We have a long time to watch it, and it's not going to sneak up on anyone! The other thing as of this post 2pm 9/7/2023, not a single piece of data has it hitting the Carolinas. That doesn't mean we are clear at all. We could still see changes long term. Just be cautious of bogus information telling you it's heading our way when there is nothing showing that at all right now. Get all your updates from credible sources of people you know and trust.

Keep an eye on this one.

Keep an eye on this one.

Thursday Afternoon Update: Hurricane Lee has bubbled up to a Category 2 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 110mph. We continue to predict this will become a strong 4 or 5 by Sunday afternoon.

Current models still forecast the storm to turn N or NW by Thursday, but as the pressure drops in the storm, the greater the likelihood tht it will overpower the low-pressure trough coming off the east cost.

BE SAFE EVERYONE.

We are super envious of our guests at EmOceanal Rescue this week! Last year was such a magical time. We had just taken occupancy of our newly renovated home, and it wasn't quite ready for renting, so we had the pleasure of spending Independence Day watching the fireworks shows up and down the coast, courtesy of the first row homes! It was spectacular and very memorable! We hope you will enjoy the show tonight!!

We're really missing being at the beach house on these hot (and even rainy) days. This video brings back a good memory of me (Blain) peacefully doing some grilling and enjoying some music on May 25, while everyone else was upstairs preparing for dinner. Sorry if my spinning around makes you dizzy. Who can name that tune (and band) of what I was listening to?

Bittersweet ending to a really fun-filled and busy 3+ weeks at the beach house this month. Great visits from many friends and family, including our 3 sons (and one girlfriend), Kim & Bobby Mann, Vincent & Pamela Crow, Sandra & John Wittenborn, Sherry Hager, and our EI neighbors, Ronnie & Karen Albritton, and Phil & Barbara D'Andrea.

Highlights included a few boat rides and fishing with Wittenborns, karaoke - of course, many visits to Kathryn's Martini Bar, many great meals at home, the Bike the Banks 10 mile race, many hours spent in the heated pool, and even a visit from the police (someone must have butt-dialed 911)! Yes and we even went to the beach a few times!

Home projects included painting the exterior doors and front bench a bright pink (it was inevitable), building a float corral under the deck stairs (thanks Seth), replanting the entrance planter and getting drip irrigation installed for that, painting the picnic table and installing an umbrella on it, installing hammock options both in the shade or on a movable stand, painting 27' co****le stripes on pool deck, installing slip proof tape on stair treads, power washing and sealing the deck, finishing installation of all blinds, planting a new hydrangea and some other bulbs, adding more labelling to help our guests, and of course, the neverending task of trying to keep the Smilax and Virginia Creeper vines out of our natural areas!

Rentals start today and go through September, except for our family week in early August and 2 available weeks at the end of August. The weather was terrible today, but we hope it will brighten up soon for our guests!

We will surely miss being there and can't wait to go back!

A year ago today, Brad Eggers Landscaping broke ground on our beach house renovation. Less than 6 months later, it was finished. Still hard to believe this all happened. We are truly blessed and thankful beyond measure. Enjoying some beautiful 55° sunny weather today.

We have some new aerial photos from Bluewater which should be uploaded to the listing soon! We're thrilled that the new sod is still green in mid-December!

Just FYI, we have only have 4 open weeks remaining to rent for next summer (1 in June, 3 in August) and expect those will fill soon in the new year.

The past 3+ weeks have been what we hope will be the end (LoL) of major projects at the house. On the to-do list this time: Install a shallow irrigation well, an irrigation system, Zoysia sod, and pine straw. We also planted a few Oleanders, Hydrangeas, and Indian Hawthorn plants ourselves. As noted in a prior post, before all this started, we spent some time ridding some of our natural areas of smilax vines and freeing up some southern live oaks and cedar trees. We also completed the landscape lights and path lights around the various areas. It looks so peaceful at nighttime with all the lighting. We are so glad to have this completed and are very pleased with the results. It's so great to be able to get unlimited water from the ground for no additional ongoing cost! Once the grass takes root, navigating the yard to get to the beach access walkway will be so much easier - even at night!

On the left, some of the Emerald Isle Marathon runners. On the right, the Robin Street EmOceanal Rescue Marathon to remove smilax vine from this beautiful Southern Live Oak tree! It might take us 26.2 days to get this done!

Congratulations to all the runners on this beautiful beach day!

Lori and I worked the packet pickup table yesterday for the race. One of the most interesting people was a guy who came in and wanted to pick up his half marathon packet. When I looked up his name and discovered he was signed up for the full marathon, he said, "Oh, okay. Then I'll just do the full marathon.". Now THAT is determination!

We've done about half this jungle clearing marathon. Another half isn't that much more at this point, I guess.

Smilax. So glad it is not poisonous. It is very invasive and has devoured so many of our trees. Trying to free them up and hope the trees (cedar and others) will thrive. Made a small dent late today. About 1.5 hours of work. Here's a before and after. Another 30-40 hours and maybe that will do it. Slow progress. And the vines have thorns. Ugh.

Accomplished the clean-out of one of several of our beach jungles on our property this weekend, with the help of our friends from home, Ron and Daphne Llewellyn. So delighted to be able to see through this bunch of cedars and pines now! Thanks Ron and Daphne!!!

Since the weeks before and after Labor Day were not rented, Lori and I decided to enjoy the beautiful weather and get a few projects done at the house. Some before and after collages are shown. Some of the projects included:
1. Removed a bunch of yard debris
2. Cleared out the retaining wall bed and put down landscape fabric, new plants, and pine straw
3. Added a new bed w/ pine straw for one set of the palm trees
4. Replaced the temporary safety fence near the retaining wall stairs with real fence sections
5. Added a privacy screen in front of the LP gas tanks
6. Installed the mailbox (now Amazon can find us when they don't use UPS!)

One thing I learned from this set of projects: DIGGING IN SAND is super easy once you get past the gravel, landscape fabric, or any other debris found in the first few inches!

Non-project highlights included:
- Yes, we got some time to relax and enjoy the pool and the beach!
- We saw some beautiful days and sunsets (see photo)
- There was an incredibly scary-looking lime and orange toy snake someone left us at the pool. Very funny. Ha ha. We threw rocks at that thing and took pictures for a while before daring to dispose of it in the trashcan!
- Watched our first sports game at the house, though it was a messy victory for NC State.
- Got an estimate for putting in sod, which we hope will get done this fall.
- And last but not least, we got to meet (or re-meet) and hang out with some of our awesome neighbors nearby!

Finally got around to posting some before and after photos of our renovation. The comparison is like night and day. We still can't believe that our builder Langford Construction was able to transform this "diamond in the rough" to a DIAMOND ON THE HILL in such a short time! These are just the before and after pictures. Check out the listing at Bluewater to see all the photos of the NEW parts!

Couple of updates: 1) We just rented the week after next, meaning there are only 2 more weeks left available for the summer rental season: 8/27 - 9/3 and 9/3 - 9/10 (Labor Day week). Additionally, for 2023, 11 of the 15 weeks from Memorial Day week through Labor Day week are on hold! So if you're interested, ACT FAST!

2) Additionally, to entice you, here are some beautiful aerial photos our builder shared after the house was done. We wish our flags were still up at this time, but these are still some great shots!
