Senseless loss...

I received word two days ago that a close Army mate of mine took his life yesterday. We served together for years in the Rangers and Delta. John Hale, "Lumpy" you will be missed. What an awesome man!

I wrote that piece the day he died as I have at times been too negative, myself.

I believe in mentorship of our juniors, taking care of each other, being our brothers steward.

I intend to be more vocal in the future. Thats enough for now.
I am always here to talk if anyone is having issues.

I already posted this on my personal site, but I thought I should post it here also.

How to Stay Positive in a Negative World

This is a difficult task for those of us who have been duty bound to fix the ugly problems of this world. At some point you are affected by the evil and ugliness that you wanted to fix.

You must realize it’s not possible to control or fix everything. Remember to focus on protecting and being concerned with what you can control. That’s the important thing.

Too often one’s emotions turn to anger over what you cannot fix. Internalizing this anger effects ones outlook and perspective on life. This in turn most often makes someone negative and difficult to be around.

Try to limit the effect that bad news has on your person. If this is too difficult then limit bad news you are exposed to.

Try to get some quiet time outside 15-30 minutes a day to unwind and think about your day and your outlook. If it is sunny outside walk barefoot in the grass. Watch the birds in the trees. Work in the garden a while. We were meant to be outside and not cooped up inside all day.

Have times when you unplug from your electronics, TV, computers, tablets and cell phones. These devices bombard your eyes with lots of energy that is not healthy for your mind or body.

Try to laugh more often. It is said that laughing in itself is therapy for the soul.

Listen to music often and relax and enjoy the experience. Too often I walk away from music and focus on the world and our countries problems.

Try to be grateful when dealing with people in your daily life. Store clerks, wait staff, who ever you encounter. I like to try to engage the people I meet in conversation, ask about their day, how their business is going, etc. Interact with the world around you in a positive way.

Try to always notice the good in the people, events and changes in your life.

Try and have daily prayer in your life. Give ones pains and troubles to your god. Try and ask for assistance and forgiveness in your daily life.

Lastly try to live a life with more meaning. Whatever your individual circumstances try to be more than just you alone. I cannot say it enough, be something greater than you. It could be your chosen work profession, church, social or charitable organization you volunteer with; what ever it takes to be a part of something greater than yourself. We get the most satisfaction in life when we are able to help other people.
