🐢🐢🐢 Sea turtles are an important neighbor on Hilton Head Island. So we put a lot of effort into protecting them and the nests they lay every summer.

Today, on World Turlte Day, we want to remind you to make sure your outside lights near the ocean are turned off by 10PM. This way when the turtles hatch, they will head to the waves and not further on land .

It is officially sea turtle nesting season!!🐢

This special occasion takes place each year from May 1st through October 31st.

Help us care for our magnificent sea turtles by turning off outside lights, drawing blinds and curtains, or shutting off visible interior lights from the beach.

Sea turtles are known for digging and nesting at night, so practicing all season long is essential!

May is here and so starts sea turtle nesting season on Hilton Head Island! Between the months of May & October, loggerhead turtles will build nests and lay eggs in the sandy dunes along the Atlantic Ocean. There were 423 nests on our beaches during the nesting season in 2022. How many nests do you think we will see this year??
