2° this morning at the cabin, and the road up the mountain is still impassable, but significantly warmer temperatures should provide good road conditions next week 🤞
It’s currently 6.8° at the ski area ”across the mountain”. Today may provide the best skiing conditions of the year at Cataloochee.

Another beautiful wintery day at the cabin. This is our 4th snowfall this year.

We took the opportunity between guests to make a quick run up to the cabin today for a workday, and to take a look to see what’s left of the color. It’s still really pretty.
The day started off with clouds and drizzle, but by late afternoon the sky had mostly cleared.
But, after unseasonably warm weather throughout October, it’s dropping into the low 20s the next three nights in a row. The rest of the color will likely disappear quickly after that. So, we probably have only a few more “days of color” for this Fall season.
It’s very unusual for us to have any availability in October or the first week of November less than six months in advance, but it is, as of the time of this post, available for check-in Nov 2 with a checkout of Nov 7. We do have a 3 night minimum.

Winter just doesn’t want to let go.
We had a light dusting of snow last night, and woke up to near freezing temperatures this morning.
Currently it’s a crisp 39° at 9:45am, but it’s turning out to be a beautiful, sunny day.

The cabin received about 4” of snow accumulation over the past 24 hours.
The Christmas decorations come down later this week.

Winter still hasn’t completely given up at the cabin.
We received about 3 inches of snow on the ground overnight, with a few more flurries expected throughout the day. After another cold day tomorrow, temperatures are expected to return back to Spring-like conditions next week(74° forecasted for Tuesday!).
