Welcome to Little Guyana
We are excited to release "Welcome to Little Guyana", a short-film from Media Sutra, Inc. documenting the historic moment on May 29, 2021 where Liberty Avenue & Lefferts Blvd in the Richmond Hill neighborhood of Queens was officially dubbed Little Guyana Avenue to honor Guyanese Americans who have called New York City home for generations.
When you walk down Liberty Avenue, you see the people, flag, foods, voices, and cultures of Guyana at every turn. The community has grown since the 60βs and 70βs when there was mass migration from Guyana to New York, and now the neighborhood is now home to the largest Guyanese population outside of Guyana, and it is the 2nd largest foreign-born group in Queens.
Thank you to everyone who took part in the creation of this beautiful moment, and to this short-film. We invite you to view, comment and share "Welcome to Little Guyana". All credits are at the end of the film.
