#11 on our list is a monument to the power of music. Roaring out of Aberdeen in the late 80's, Nirvana took the world by storm. But, sadly, the axiom "the brightest star burns out quickest" seems to have held true when lead singer, Kurt Cobain, passed away in 1994. Yards from his then home, fans gathered in Viretta Park and began leaving messages to him. The practice has continued to this day on the "Nirvana bench". The bench sits in the center of the lower park, covered in more than 25 years of messages of mourning, hope, love and influence. There is no parking available, making the moment more personal by not having as many interruptions.
Did you know that Seattle has over 400 public parks and greenspaces? The parks alone number over 200 and range from huge parks with miles of trails to small pocket parks nestled into every neighborhood. This year we are going to try to visit all 200 plus parks in Seattle and share them with you.
