Over the past couple of months, we have had a couple of young adults, volunteering at the football project.

As a volunteer, you will be involved with different aspects of the project. Some of the tasks that you could be involved with are:
- Assisting the coaches in their coaching sessions
- Introducing new football specific drills
- Recording home and away games and run match statistics
- Fundraising
- Help with homework classes for the juniors
- Create new fun games for the program for disabled people
- Creating and launching events for the football club
- Marketing
- Support management in their daily tasks
- Create new social media content

As you can see it is a very broad and diverse position. And the views aren't bad either ;).

A Cape Town Farm Project

Volunteer at a local farm in Cape Town. The Farm is an educational non-profit project in Cape Town, South Africa, celebrating local food, culture, and community through urban agriculture.

Volunteers benefit from their work at the Farm, making friends, gaining skills and knowledge, gaining confidence and pride in knowing they are contributing to a more healthy and just food system in Cape Town and beyond.

“I’ve just completed my Apprentice Field Guide qualification at the Limpopo Field Guiding Academy. I organized this course through the gap year program of GAP Africa.

During my course I had an absolute blast. This has been my dream since I was a child so it’s been an incredible experience to have my childhood dream come true. So thank you to GAP Africa for helping me organize this experience.

I could recommend this experience to anyone who loves the bush or is looking for a way to step out of their comfort zone and learn something new. Being able to live in a tented camp inside a game reserve and learn about the natural world around you for 2 months really is an experience of a life time!!! You learn from the smallest insects and organisms all the way up to the largest. You learn to track animals, about their behavior, how the ecosystem functions, how to recognize bird calls. And much much more. They really cover everything. I loved it.”

One of our often requested volunteer projects is the football organization.
Through sports, and primarily soccer, kids and young adults are being thought how to build an active, self-sufficient life. They are being taught life skills such as fair play, respect, team-spirit and how to overcome challenges, all with a view to assisting them in making intelligent choices for a better future.

As a volunteer, you will be involved with different aspects of the organization. You will assist with administrative tasks, get out into the communities.

One of our absolute favorite projects is a bush school close to Kruger National Park. The project site is situated in a 600 hectares private game reserve. The mission is to educate and
inspire local children to value their environment and stimulate community development.

Your job as an intern or volunteer is very diverse and you could be involved with different tasks.
From outreach manager to communications&media manager and fundraising manager.

YACHTMASTER OCEAN X-TREME COURSE

Cape Town has been a historical sailing center since Bartholomeus Dias in 1486 sailed passed the Cape of Good Hope. It is still well known in the yachting world as a critical turning point. Where the two Atlantic and Indian oceans come together, creates the perfect conditions to become a qualified RYA Yachtmaster, in just 17 weeks.

After completing this course you will have the experience and competency to skipper a yacht on passages of any length in all parts of the world.

This weekend Cape Towns' heatwave hit a new record. The best place to be is at the beach.
Cape Town has some of the best places to learn how to surf or kitesurf, with beautiful views on the back.

Or volunteer at one of the local projects, that teaches children from the communities to surf. Besides learning how to surf, the kids are receiving homework support, education, and nutrition.

One of the highlights in South Africa, is the beautiful Game Reserves. From the famous Kruger National park en Addo. To the less known and visited reserves.

South Africa is definitely a great option if you are looking for a wildlife-volunteer position. Getting involved with wildlife conservation, conservation activities and learning more about tracking animals, and gaining field skills.

Due to COVID we have all been at home, for such a long time. But we can't wait to travel and spend time abroad again.

Why not travel to South Africa or Namibië, volunteer at an NGO for a couple months, follow your internship abroad or work from a self-catering apartment.
All while exploring the country during your off time. Spend your Saturdays exploring the mountains and visiting the local markets. Or take a couple days of and travel the garden route.
