Elize Olivier joined the Bushveld Region of the SANParks Honorary Rangers (SHR) in 2020 and is currently the region's Vice Chairperson.
"I was born in Pretoria. I got married in 2002 in Mopani Rest Camp in Kruger National Park (KNP) to the most amazing husband, Anton. Anton worked for SANParks for 20 years and we lived in Letaba staff village - what an amazing experience.
I am a qualified safari guide and tour operator, and I operate mostly in the beautiful Kruger National Park and surrounding areas and have a very successful tour company that I started in 2015. I am also a freelance guide for KNP.
We now live in Phalaborwa which is known as the town of two summers and we are so blessed to be on the doorstep of Kruger National Park.
I joined the SHR because of my passion for nature, wildlife, to work with guests and to educate and create awareness. I love tourism and conservation. I am a communicator. And I love to be kept busy.
My husband and I coordinate our region's PEAP (Public Education and Awareness Program) and we love interacting with the public and work hand in hand with our region's members. For us awareness and education is very important.
For me first impressions are lasting so as a region we have decided to spend much valuable time at Phalaborwa Gate to make sure guests feel welcome and excited to enter the KNP when they arrive. I was instrumental in creating a new information board on alien invaders for the gate. I am constantly involved in improving the look and feel of the Phalaborwa Gate area.
In our region we are so blessed to have amazing women from different cultures with so many talents. They are all hard workers and always keen to assist with admin, new projects, park duty, cooking or to share ideas and to get things going.
I think that the SHR is privileged to have so many female members who play such important roles, not only within my region, but in the whole organisation and I am blessed to work with many of these incredible ladies. Girl power!
I always say there is enough sunshine for everyone so share and do things together to make a success of duties and encourage others to be a part.
Happy Womens Day to all the incredible females out there!"
