It’s still unknown how exactly the Pinnacles were formed. However, the most common theory is that they are dissolution remnants of the Tamala Limestone, formed over 30,000 years ago from karstification. The Nyoongar word ‘Nambung’ means ‘crooked’ and makes reference to the river which weaves through the region.
