Hello friends,
I am an accomplished high-altitude mountaineer and one of Australia's leading trekking guides. I have climbed all over the world, including the highest mountains in Europe, Africa, South America, and North America. Prior to COVID-19 I managed and operated my own personalized adventure trekking business, taking novice adventurers to spectacular regions of the Himalayas and Africa. I

n addition to my guiding passion and talents, I am also an experienced high-performance coach and simulated altitude training specialist. I am also a former world-class middle-distance runner; having trained at the AIS and won national track and cross-country titles over 3000m and 10,000m. I consider myself a genuine mentor, leader, and communicator who has a unique ability to inspire people to explore their potential, overcome their fears, heal, and achieve extraordinary things. Mindfulness is my passion and I live each day with the intention to live by those core values. When I am not enjoying the outdoors I can be found working as an Allied Health Therapist at Cheltenham Manor Aged Care Facility. With love,
Cherie

Running for 28 days between 15 December 2023 and 14 January 2024, Donna Urquhart completed the longest polar ultramarathon on foot EVER achieved by a woman.

What an honour today to meet with Goldstein’s Independent Federal Member Zoe Daniel and Chief of Staff Angela Pippos.

It was an incredible opportunity to sit with two women who are as passionate about gender equality as the Run Antarctica team are.

Many ideas were tossed around and we look forward to collaborating with Zoe and Angela on ways to create better pathways and opportunities for females in sport, and in life!

What a powerful image, one of the most moving photo’s we have seen of Donna. And the picture fits with the reflective thoughts below, penned by Donna as she left Antarctica:

Some days in Antarctica were incredibly special and an absolute dream come true. Other days were tougher than I could have imagined and I just wanted it all to stop.

At times I was paralyzed by the enormity of the goal I had set myself - living in a polar environment, running 50km per day on the ice and reaching a total of 1300km in 30 days.

Other times I was scared for my safety; being in the bitter cold and howling winds and stumbling through the fog unable to see where I was going.

And then there was the ongoing fight through the physical and mental fatigue to just start another day.

I focused on the simple things and being in the moment; my next step, my next breath, my next movement.
I reflected back on the journey and felt incredible energy and emotion from reliving the humble beginnings, celebrating the incredible highs and overcoming the seemingly insurmountable challenges.

And I dreamt about the future and escaped into another world by starting the plane trip home looking out over Antarctica feeling proud and excited.

The now, the past, the future - they allowed me a safe and magical passage through to the end

So proud of Donna! 🫶

She'd spent two years preparing – hoping to set a new world record for the longest polar run ever completed – but still, nothing could prepare her for the real thing.

12/01/2024

Donna Urquhart set out on her mission on December 15 and ran up to 60km each day to complete her 1312.26km run in 26 days.

We couldn’t be more proud of our friend Donna Urquhart for reaching her goal of running 1300kms in Antartica. Absolutely incredible effort that also gives her a World Record. She took this challenge on to raise funds to empower girls in sport. As Donna has said “I will be pushing through sub-zero temperatures, winds of up to 100km/h, isolation and loneliness, and using all my mental and physical strength to discover what humans (and me) are capable of. But I’m not doing it for me, I’m doing it for my life passion: showing other females what is possible for them, and empowering them with a holistic approach of integrating mental and physical skills to explore their own possibilities.” We are incredibly proud of you Donna, for your vision to take on this challenge, for your passion to support girls and women in sport and for inspiring so many of us along the way. I know this is just the start of a bigger project for you. But for now, it’s time to celebrate all of your success and the incredible support team you had around you to make this happen. And also time to rest. Please donate to this incredibly worthy cause if you can.

Today was very special. It was one of my most favorite days in Antarctica. I not only got to run in Antarctica - but I ran with special people who mean so much to me. This morning I was sent audio messages from friends and family which had been bundled up into a 3 + hour playlist.
I felt like I was back in Australia running alongside each person or hanging out in a cafe having a chat. We reminisced about how we met and our past special memories, we talked about the rollercoaster journey to get to Antarctica and we got excited about the future and what it might hold. Some people played songs, others wrote poems, and some created their own audio books. Messages came in all shapes and sizes - some were light and funny, and some messages were very deep, raw and emotional - I felt so honoured to be listening. My feet didn't touch the ground, the lap number didn't register and I was immersed in all that matters. I smiled. I laughed. I cried. I felt so much emotion - happy, proud, empathetic, surprised, loved.... I sometimes had to stop running as I was laughing or crying too hard to run at the same time. It was so emotional and so special. It reminded me that while we are nearing closer to our goals of a World Record and fundraising target - we have already won! We have so many incredibly special, beautiful people in our corner.
Thank you to those people who sent messages and equally to those people who have supported in so many different ways. ❤️ Donna

Donna has endured the coldest and windiest day yet, with Rhys by her side. This is what she had to say after the first loop:

We braved the first loop this morning. It was really hard. Below -20c, in wind. The ground was moving underneath us - snow blowing everywhere. Hills of snow to stumble through. Five layers on top, toe and hand warmers, balaclava, multiple buffs - you name it we took it. The bizarre thing is the sun is still shining. Makes you realise we need to respect this place because it can swallow you up in a second. But what a way to feel alive!

The world is watching. 🌎
Donna's world record attempt to run 1300km in Antarctica - the longest distance in a polar region - has attracted significant media attention and shared her inspiring story far and wide.
How do we know? Our media monitoring service is provided by global company Meltwater, completely pro bono.
The more awareness we can raise of Donna's attempt, the more girls and women will benefit from Donna's outreach and the charities she supports.
The support of all our corporate partners who made this attempt possible means the world to Donna and the team, and as awareness of Donna's attempt increases, their organisations will benefit from the coverage. Meltwater's support to communicate this reach to our partners has been absolutely integral.
